One historical fact that ruins the movie for me

To keep the population in line in occupied France, the Nazis would pick 1000 people in town, and randomly shoot 100 of them if any of the German soliders died unexpectedly.

The great thing about most of QTs work is that most of his stories are plausible.

If you're talking about the ending, all the heads of the Nazi party get burned up so the leadership would get dissolved and they'd be more fighting against each other for command. That might give the French people a chance to defend themselves against them.

reply

Didn't, they kill German soilder in Occupied France before the ending?

reply

Yeah. The guys in the Bar.

reply

I guess the movie just omits those scenes. But also the German high command knew that those kills were by the Basterds and not a French partisan militia.

reply

Yeah that irked me too. I’m glad they accurately depicted Hitler dying in a movie theater fire though.

reply

The movie ends with the Basterds basically winning the war by killing Hitler and the entire top chain if command. It’s not meant to be accurate.
