The gore was unnecessary

It was too much, I guess Tarantino put it in so that we the viewers didn't like the Basterds too much and had to be reminded what they were doing, but it was too much and Tarantino is above torture porn.

I'm not for censorship and some of it was well done, but seeing the scalping and the nazi forhead marking was crude filmmaking (in a bad way), and unneccessary.

This film works best when it is left to the actors, and it is a triumph when it is.

I call it 'revenge porn'.

You are of course correct. But that is Tarantino's thing, he loves to put violence and gore in his movies and to me it takes each one down a notch and makes them all mediocre.

We usually attach the descriptor "pornography" to graphic sex but here the pornography is the graphic violence, a Tarantino trademark. It seems to be his way of being absurd, as if to say 'If it is over-the-top graphic then it won't be taken seriously.' But he gets people to talk about it which is how he strokes his ego.
