U.S. Distributor...

Does anyone have any info on a possible U.S DVD release of Miike's Yakuza Horror Theater: Gozu?

reply

Go on Ebay and look for Gozu dvd. There are people selling it. Make sure you get the right region.

reply

I don't want no bootleg.

reply

Then you'll probably never see it.

reply

I've already seen it multiple times.

So you've already put some money into this particular film experience, no? The best way to make the US DVD release happen for *all of us* is to promote the film by catching it at every screening you can find, and by spreading the buzz.

the film will soon be running at the SF Independant film festival:

Hordes of excited filmgoers tend to make distributors sit up and take notice...

There are no current U.S. distributors so the one you seen was probably a bootleg.

Who?

reply

Just saw the film at CineVegas, the director Takashi Miike was at the film and did Q&A for about 15 min. Among the things he said was that the film was going to be distributed in the US. It will start in NY and filter across the states from there (he seemed doubtful that it would reach many small markets). Before the film started, there was a distributor's name on screen and I think it was Pathfinder or something like that. Miike also said that he’d love to work with Christopher Walken (he could see him playing the role of Ozaki in this movie) and that he respected David Lynch’s style of film. Hope this helps.

reply

I know Pathfinder picked it up as I'm the one who submitted that info to IMDB. I'm just hoping they release a DVD of it soon.

It's wrapping up a week only engagement run in Seattle this week. I'd expect Gozu to hit region 1 DVD first quarter '05.

I read somewhere that the special features include..
16:9 anamorphic widescreen transfer
Film notes by "Agitator: the films of Takashi Miike" author Tom Mes
Gozu and Andromedia theatrical trailers
and other trailer reel

reply

It comes out on Region 1 DVD November 23 2004.

reply

Even better. Faster to my DVD player the better.

reply

It played in Chicago over the past week.
