The game

Hey, that's funny... My favorite computer game's a game called Sanitarium, and I was looking for something on it when I ended up on this page.

The lead character in the game is a doctor called Max. This Max has found a drug that cures an illness that's killing children. His rival than tries to kill Max and the game's made up out of nightmarish visions Max has while on the verge of dying.

The most recurring nightmare, the one you keep going back to when you've finished another level, is one of a creepy asylum where a very cruel doctor's performing horrible tests on crazy people. He's tyring to isolate their insanity to find a cure for it. In doing so he only makes it worse and tortures and kills the patients.

Well, isn't that a coincidence? I mean, the doctor Max as the good guy and the insanity-theme and the possible cure gone horrible wrong...

Or maybe the game's slightly inspired by the movie, or the movie by the game? Does anyone know? I don't really have high hopes for anyone visiting this board to be honest, but hey, I can always try. So cult-cheap-horror-movie lover out there; I'm waiting for your insight!

I don't think it has anything to do with the game, someone thought up this monstrsity all on their own.

Hey, a reply!

Not the one I was hoping for, but still. Thank you for answering.

I don't think it's impossible that this movie is somewhat inspired by the game. I think it's a bit too much to be a coincidence. I agree the game was great (my favorite PC game as well), but making a movie out of it simply wouldn't work. It would be a typical B-movie, which this probably is anyway.

The game was released three years before this movie, so it can't be the other way around.

Great to find someone who loves the game as well! I've never even met anyone who'd heard of it. Ah well, woe the ignorant everyone. And thanks for your answer!

Hi there - I co-wrote and directed this film - it has nothing to do with the game (I'm afraid I didn't even know there was one) - but the US distributors changed the title from Diagnosis to Sanitarium so maybe that was something they were trying to cash in on?

Ah! There's the definitive answer I was hoping for. Thank you very much!

Sanitarium, the game, is *beep* awesome. almost my favourite adventure game of all time. It's a toss-up between that, BLADE RUNNER and SILENT HILL. ALONE IN THE DARK - THE NEW NIGHTMARE is also brilliant. You should check them out, if you haven't done so already.

I'm sorry but this movie was absolutely horrible. I paid $20 for this DVD and I am disgusted by the production values, writing, and everything else. For someone to pass this off as a film is horrible. I'm just pissed that I actually paid full price for this, it's more like something you find at a dollar store.

Yeah? The game's good though. ;D
