Wot was she doing on that stage with that sickening, ripped off version of My Fair Lady? With all those electronical instruments? Yuck, made my skin crawl...

ahh! here here!

Ok so Pygmalion was a PLAY based on a Greek Myth.
My Fair Lady was a stage musical based on this play.
What I believe you are referring to ulam5, is the Audrey Hepburn film adaption of the stage musical.

From all the "ripping off" My Fair Lady has done don't you think it is a bit ripe to say that another adaption cheapens it?

I would say Hepburn's lip synching may have already done that.

In general I just don't like modernizations of stories.

reply

I would say that Educating Rita is another example of a modern telling of essentially the same story - except this time with a more 'academic' feel.

reply

It's fairly known that they lipsynched Audrey without her knowing. She was excited about getting to sing and was pretty disappointed when they showed her a screening of the song and she heard someone else's voice.

IMDb is not a fansite, contrary to popular opinion!

reply

"Fairly known"? What do you mean. I am not familiar with that expression in English.

reply

I know this is much later and I am not the original poster, but I believe I can answer the question. The phrase is "fairly _well_ known. i.e. common knowledge. In this case, that Audrey sang the original songs and was unaware that the powers that be, had another person record the songs, and replace her original recordings.

I have no great love for "My Fair Lady" but "Eliza Rocks" was REALLY bad.
