Popular kids competing over a school play? Yeah, right.

This is some sort of wish fulfillment on the part of the writers and producers. At the two high schools I attended, the athletes were the popular kids, not the drama club kids.

I was a drama kid and I competed for many roles against popular kids. I know a lot of schools like that, just depends where you go.

Same here. The lead in our school play was the VJ Quarterback, and next year he's going to be Varsity's.

Our school plays had "popular kids" Both our Valedictorian and Saliditorian
(homecoming king one year) were in the school plays. Two of out varsity cheerleaders, both were in homecoming court, one prom queen. A basketball player/homecoming king. And two of my friends. We have very well rounder students.

At my school all of the popular kids are in the plays. Like the home coming king and queen (the king is also the quarterback) I guess it does depend where you got to school, my friends school is like mine to though.

Agreed. We had a theatre class not a drama club, and typically the kids in that class would audition for the plays. The kids who were enrolled in our drama class fell into one of the following categories: a. The underachievers looking for an "easy A" b. The aspiring actors (few actually aspired for the life of a thespian) c. The weirdos

None of the popular kids ever stared in or auditioned for a role in a play. The popular kids at my school were the quintessential athlete and cheerleader. And if they did do any performance, it was doing our Coffee House, which was our talent show, and at this time America's Best Dance Crew was the thing and so we had a few self involved kids that swore they could break dance lmao

Hey, remember in Glee, the members were a combinations of popular kids and nerds and they took part in performances.
So yeah lol
