It Is Not Pride and Prejudice

Every time I read someone's complaint about this not being Pride and Prejudice, I wonder where they got the idea that it was.

While reviewers and other commenters may state that it is the modern "Pride and Prejudice" set in India, neither the director or writer(s) claim that it is.

What is stated is that it is loosely based on that novel. The same way lots of movies are inspired by or based on actual events, but they bear very little resemblance to the actual events.

I can point to a movie I saw recently, Sanctum (2011) that was written by someone that actually lived the events that inspired the movie. In the movie all of the divers except one dies. In the actual event, all were rescued. The locations aren't even the same.

Unless a movie is a documentary, sticking strictly to previous storylines shouldn't be an issue.
