Why does she get so offended?

He can't get work done in the hotel, cause their computers crash - she is offended.

He doesn't understand arranged marriages - she is offended.

He says the groom chose arranged marriage for simplicity - she is offended.

A proud, prejudiced, and extremely annoying "Lizzy" and a spineless wimp for "Darcy". Add to that cringe-inducing dialogue, horrendous lyrics, and a messy plot. But that's all nothing compared to Aishwarya Rai's "acting"

A sensible person, when a visitor in another country would be wise to be circumspect in their speech. Every time Darcy opens his mouth, he says something insulting. It isn't as if the differences in amenities in the area aren't evident. He knows nothing of the area, the culture, or the customs, yet he spouts about standards, backwardness, and even mocks their food ("Delhi Belly") and dancing. The first night, he even insults the girls by refusing, when his friends suggests it, to dance with one of them. Yes, he was having problems with his pants, but he could have excused himself, fixed them, and returned. It is just good manners.

Initially, Lalita tries to be polite, but eventually gets fed up with his seeming refusal to see things from others point of view. His type of (initial) behavior is how the term "Ugly American" was inspired.

"When in Rome..." and all that.

The "Delhi Belly" comment was said between friends, not in front of Lalita. And there's nothing wrong with not being crazy about spicy food that you're not used to.

His refusal to dance was polite and apologetic. He is in a different country with different music and dancing, wearing clothes he has never tried before, AND his trousers are coming undone. Anyone who's not a self-absorbed snob would have noticed how uncomfortable he seemed. And who's to say he didn't have a conference call?!

He says he's having difficulties doing business in the hotel, it's a slight towards her country. He finds arranged marriage strange, it's a slight towards her culture. His friend chose arranged marriage because it's more simple, it's a slight towards Indian women. It seems to me like she was dead set on getting offended no matter what he said or did.

Not that I'm crazy about his character. He's boring and spineless, and not too bright either. The only things he has going for him are his looks and his wealth.

I should also add, Lalita is so offended by his criticism of the Hotel, and goes into a lecture about what people can or can't afford in that town, forgetting that they were at a wedding that probably cost the equivalent of a worker's earnings for several years.
