X-Play and AOTS cancelled.

Hopefully this ends this craptastic channel.

Squirrel on my shoulder just told me to *beep* off!

G4 is FINALLY dead...TECH TV FOREVER!!!!

is there any reason why both shows were not renewed?

i have not watched g4 since it was ditched by directv, but about 2 years ago i noticed that aots and xplay were the best thing the network had going. without these 2 shows what will g4 become? are they going to start new shows about gaming or are they preparing to change their brand?

Apparently, the channel is rebranding to something more like Spike TV (Which is odd, because the channels are already pretty similar as is).

They should keep both shows because they fit the new format, but whatever.

It's depressing! I will miss Morgan, a smart woman on TV, and the game updates because there's nothing else like it.

At the time it was announced, G4 was already in it's final days and at the time, it was going to be re-branded as Esquire. (Though those plans fell through and I believe the Style Channel instead became Esquire) I used to watch some Tech TV and then quite a bit of G4 during my High School and College days, but it seems that starting around 2006/2007, it all fell apart relatively quickly, and between 2008-2012, it was just basically us watching the network slowly die while on life-support.

A lot of their classic shows (Cinematech, Icons, Cheat!, etc.) were cancelled or put on long hiatuses with no updates for up to a year starting around that time. They started replacing half their schedule with crap like Cheaters or generic shows they could run for cheap like Cops. And much of the time, we were relegated to maybe an hour or two of new game/media-related programming ever day.

It was all essentially a ploy to bring in more viewers, because the channel was always attracting just a small-but-dedicated niche audience, and the higher-ups wanted more viewers and more money at the cost of their market. I think it really boils down to an era where the new president of the company (I think his name was Neal) basically drove it headlong off a metaphorical cliff by screwing over the core audience and basically admitting he was trying to turn G4 into a knock-off of Spike TV. And it didn't work. New audiences were apathetic and wouldn't stick around, and older G4 fans abandoned it because they ruined the format of the network.

Part of me still hopes that one of these days, another network will try and resurrect some classic G4 shows (Spike or SyFy would honestly probably be making a smart move by bringing back X-Play or AOTS), but it probably won't happen, and surely wouldn't be the same without the original hosts/casts returning.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

I'm glad for this. G4 has been going down hill for quite some time and just needed to be cancelled. Glad to see its finally happening.

Well ten years is a pretty good run for a show like this.
