George Lucas not completely satisfied

From what I've read on other internet sites (can not remember what they are, it's been a while), there are certain things about this "older" Clone Wars series that George Lucas did not like or wanted to change. Therefore he decided to not only create the "newer" series to continue telling the Clone Wars saga, but is also using it as a way to correct a few things from the "older" series. Which is also why the DVD's for this series were discontinued by Lucasarts. Apparently some things are no longer "canon" from this series.
Having said that, the sites I retrieved this information from never did go into any detail about what was changed between the two series', or why the DVD's themselves were taken off the market. Just that George Lucas himself wasn't completely satisfied with this "older" series. Now, everything I have just explained is merely a rumor at this point. But a rumor based on sound evidence. However, if anybody can verify any of this, and give specific examples of what GL did not like about this Clone Wars and what is being changed in the new series, I would greatly appreciate it if you could give us some much needed insight on this subject.

EVERYTHING GEORGE LUCAS TOUCHES TURNS TO *beep* NOWADAYS
MAIN MAIN CANON IS THE FIRST 3 ORIGINAL MOVIES
SUB CANON IS THE PREQUELS
AND THEN THE OTHER *beep*

It was the exagerated fighting style he didn't like, how Mace fought all those droids etc.

reply

Lucas didn't like something that was exagerated? He's the guy that let teddy bears beat the Empire, had an 8 year old blow up an armed enemy ship, had an 8 year old win a race in a rocket powered sand buggy, and made a character played by Christopher Lee a fighter. Lucas may not have liked the flat drawing style which I'll agree on, Jabba the Hutt has more appeal then Mace Windu with bold outlines and a square body.

reply

hey i loved seeing mace windu own all those droids hes the man !!!!!

reply

windu vs machines is D coolest sequence in action history. period. no wong fei hung, no neo, no nothing.

and new clone wars is soulless. it doesn't even look good. action makes you yawn. i'm sure lucas is very happy with 'em as long as they get good ratings. somebody should tell him that he can't take no money to hell.

any further sw material should at least be this decent:

i liked clone wars, but i like the new series better.i disagree it looks a lot better than the 1st series.i agree all new star wars material should look like the old republic trailer also.i wish GL would make some new sw movies using the graphics in TOR trailer.he could make them and they would be a lot cheaper than the prequels were.he already uses so much cg in them anyway, plus he really doesn't like working with actors anyway.the humans in the TOR trailer looked pretty realistic to me and the backgrounds looks awesome.GL cgs the backgrounds of the movies anyway.he could make the follow up movies to the original trilogy and not have to worry about the actors being too old.he could also start making movies about events before ep. 1.i think he might gain a new group of fans by doing this.

That was the one scene I hope gets changed imo. Mainly because if he was that great and able to take that many droids, then he should have demolished the droid army at the battle of genosis with ease and the jedi should have lost no one.

So it felt way out of place to see him that good when in AOTC he sucked in comparision and let his other jedi die. If they had the clones get alot of kills as well, and had him get the majority that would have been ok. But for him to solo a droid army when he couldn't eariler? Continutity error there, considering how easily he did it.

reply

why don't we just say that battle was on a low grav world?
why does lucas always cover his *beep* mistakes afterwards, cant he just pay more attention in production?

reply

Cos this way he can make a ton fo mney off the reissues when peopel buy them just to see what changes were made.

reply

You should really check you facts before you embarrass yourself again regarding Christopher Lee. He was both a Special Operations officer during WWII and was a Nazi Hunter after. Unlike people here he's actually fought and killed men as he's commented on before.

Oh, but he's old, so making him a "fighter" seems ridiculous to you. I mean, you'd NEVER accept people like Alec Guinness as a fighter, would you?

reply

GL is a moron. This series is vastly superior to the new one... The clones actually blow *beep* up... The new series they can't hit *beep*

So stupid.

reply

So the new series shows th ones that go on to become Storm Troopers then?

reply

krazykritic179 is a moron. GL is a genius, because he created Star Wars in the first place. In my opinion, both the cartoon series are lame, but the movies are awesome.

Barry Lyndon shot first.

reply

Well you know what it is. George is easily frazzled. He never shows it, but I know he's a jealous old man when it comes to someone else getting praise for something over him. I once heard that his least favorite Star Wars film is Empire Strikes Back. Really? Worse than Episode II? I can't even go into how many ways that's wrong. That's what professional jealousy sounds like, kids. It's been printed in magazines that Tartakovsky's series was better than the prequels themselves. So there it is. Gotta pay the cost to be the boss I guess.

reply

>>> I once heard that his least favorite Star Wars film is Empire Strikes Back. Really? Worse than Episode II? I can't even go into how many ways that's wrong.

In his world, it's the worst because it's the one he had the least creative input in by the end of the filming process. Never mind the fact that the more people are involved who can filter out his BS, the better the movies become, while his pure, unadulterated ideas seem to have a far worse noise:signal ratio - if someone else interfered with his "artistic vision", it sucks.

So he's going to systematically rampage through his franchise until there's absolutely nothing of substance left, until he either dies, or someone manages to kill him.

He hated the original Clone Wars series because it essentially received far more praise than anything he's done in the last 20 years. Thus, it had to be destroyed.

The Mace Windu fight in Star Wars: Clone Wars was probably one of the greatest sequences in animation history, its a shame most people don't see it for the achievement it was. It stuck to the same kind of kung fu homage that Kill Bill did, only less blood :)

Gendy's animation style is sublime. Yes, he uses hard lines, but he does it intentionally to help create the desired effect: fluid movement. Every movement a character does (especially the Jedi) is drawn with such a dramatic fluid line of motion that the characters move more like snapping whips than humans. Gendy also doesn't flood his children's cartoons with WAAAY too much unnecessary rambling dialogue as 99% of most children shows do now. He could have stuck in Jar Jar Binks to slap around or fart (or whatever the phuk he's for) if he wanted to go that direction with his primarily child audience, but he didn't. He understands that well placed silence can say VOLUMES more than some rambling goofy idiot can, even to children (who get a bum rap for being hard attention-getters.) Gendy doesn't dumb down his work just to please an audience. He is one of the very few main-stream animators out there who can actually be called an artist.

Don't know if you can tell, but I'm just a huge fan of his work.

reply

Hey Jared, one doesn't have to be a fan to see that Gendy's work on Clone Wars blows away the current clone wars hands down. I can honestly watch both volumes over and over again and never get tired of it. Probably the best thing about the original CW was the sense of SCALE!!! He truly made the audience feel like the universe hung in the balance unlike the current CW show. Also, like you said, he knew what would impress kids and adult fans alike a lot more than stupid Jar Jar and retarded events that are thrown in as gags in the newer show. I have to think that there are still kids out there, like the older generations, that could handle true action shows that even had death...like Robotech, Exo Squad, DBZ etc.

I enjoy both series, but the Original Series has a certain charm to it. The current series is just missing something...I can't put my feeling on it.

...one thing I loved about the original series is Grievous...he was such a beast in the original series, how many Jedi did he dispatch/injure...Episode III made him a joke (I love the PT and OT BTW), and the current series has made Grievous the most incompetent member the Separatists movement...

reply

Yeah I agree Grievous in the 2003 cartoon was awesome and I was so looking forward to him in Episode III but IMO he is not even needed.

They shoudl have voiced him by teh same guy in the 2003 series.

reply

Best thing about this series is probably Grievous and the other Jedi. They are still seen as arrogant but at least they are useful and their personalities explored better. I don't bother with the new series because the art is horrible to look at IMO. It does seem like Lucas hates anything he was not in control over especially when it is praised highly.

Lois Lane=Leia Lane

BS. If all you said was true, then how come Empire had the least amount of changes even with the Special Editions? Irvin Kershner, who directed Empire, noted Lucas's involvement with the film during his interviews, even serving as a second unit director in several key scenes. And George Lucas did contribute a lot to Empire, including adding the Luke's father plot twist after Leigh Brackett who wrote the original unused script died.

And OP's claim about Lucas "hating" Tartakovsky has no substance whatsoever, considering that he was personally selected by Lucas, and it was Lucas who recommended him to Jon Favreau for Iron Man 2.

reply

[deleted]

Um... what doesn't he like about it. Because it was the storytelling and action that fans in love with the franchise wanted to see? How dare the writers and animators attempt to make Star Wars awesome!

reply

Lucas... The reason he didn't like them is because they are better than his movies!

I will never forget.

reply

I think it's funny because is actually way better than the cgi series. Grievous is the best thing about the 2d version and then he was ruined in the Revenge of the Sith and in the 3d cartoon series. Grievous was pathetic when he fought Kit Fisto, the whole fight makes me cringe on how bad it was.

reply

I can't find any info on this claim anywhere (at least an official source). I mean, I can buy George Lucas being...well...'George Lucas' about Clone War (2003), but ugh. I enjoyed the newer SWTCW, but the one Tartakovsky did will forever be one of my favorite parts of the SW media.

reply

The 2003 cartoon is not only better than the 2008 version, but better than most of the prequels. No wonder Lucas had the DVDs made out of print.

You can still find this series on Amazon, used.

Greivous is boss in this series. He owns dozens of Jedi. And Mace Windu is godlike in that battle scene against armies of battle droids

reply

I've have found nothing to confirm these stupid claims.
