How did Eden and Olivia give Julia amnesia?

This one of the show's biggest unanswered questions that they just never addressed. The biggest non-resolution was how Eden just disappeared from the show without getting her comeuppance or having to answer for what she had done.

After a violent encounter with a carjacker, Julia purchases a gun and initiates an affair with Christian. She also threatens Eden after discovering her relationship with Sean. Enraged, Eden begins poisoning Julia with mercury-laced fruitcake. Julia's mystery illness tears apart her affair with Christian, and Julia finally realizes that she was not in love with him, but instead in love with a fantasy of him. Olivia returns to Los Angeles, and helps Julia discover that she has mercury poisoning. Julia works out that she had been poisoned through eating the fruitcake and confronts Eden. In desperation Eden uses Julia's gun to shoot her in the head. Julia is rushed to hospital where she is diagnosed with having retrograde amnesia.

You've had your whole *beep* life to think things over!

Right, I'm talking about the scene where Eden confesses to Olivia and they rush to the hospital, implying that they did something to give Julia amnesia, but it's never explained as the storyline was abandoned. Otherwise it was pretty coincidental and convenient for them!

I think the rushing was simply because they needed to get to the hospital, and it'd look weird if they were there really late. I think Eden intended to kill Julia in the heat of the moment without a plan, then Julia survived, and the rest they just sort of made up as they went along. Like you said, coincidental and convenient, for sure. Then there's the scene in the episode where Olivia dies, where Eden tells a further cover-up lie to Julia and Sean. I can't recall the details, but it basically puts all of the blame on Olivia, I guess clearing Eden.

Ok, I think I'm understanding. I remember they set it up as this big cliffhanger on the show, and at the time, everyone on the boards here was guessing "Did Olivia use some technique to erase Julia's memory?" Since it seemed clear they were rushing to the hospital to finish her off, then they were just sitting there quietly while Julia doesn't remember anything that happened. I guess we have to chalk it up to biggest coincidence/plot contrivance ever.

Still inexcusable though, was how Eden never got her comeuppance. I still don't like how she just got away with it and Julia never remembered anything, just for the sake of writing the character out of the show. That's probably the biggest abandoned plot line of all.

Agreed, Eden should've gotten what she deserved. Maybe the actress wasn't very available, because her last scene, when she throws Olivia's ashes on Sean and Julia, was (I believe) her only scene that episode. This episode aired halfway through 90210's first season, so her availability was probably limited. But yeah, they still could've finished her better. It sucks to ask the audience to invest so much in a plotline that's abandoned and literally forgotten by characters.
