Philly Opening Night.

I saw this on Delaware Ave in Philly on opening night.

Me and my date were the only white people in a filled audience. The opening scene of the island with the weird "black people" freaking out caused massive uncomfortableness to the point I was feeling the shock/anger of the audience.

I will never forget how totally weird it was!

What were those people supposed to be? Some had blue eyes.

reply

They were just natives to the island.... I'm wondering if you were just uncomfortable and feeling all that negativity because of your own discomfort....

reply

If you have even been in an all black audience at the movies, you'd understand.

It can be the most fun ever with all kinds of flying comments!

But, thanks for the insult motherfucker ;)

reply

Oh man I just joined and tried to use the name stinkypoopypants but it was taken and now here he is. Motherfucker.

reply

Wow. I've only been called "mother-fucker" twice in one day and that was when I repo'd this nasty, pig of a man's Corvette! Lol, ahh the memories.

That's hilarious that you wanted to choose that name!! My 8 year old son chose it for me so I kept it. He cracks me up! My husband thinks I should change it to something more suiting to a mother but my son was so happy to come up with it!

Cheers! :)

reply

Good grief! It wasn't meant to be insulting, lol. I have been the only white person in an audience of black people because my white aunt married a black man. My cousins and I go out all the time. That's why I mentioned that maybe it was your own discomfort about what they might have been feeling... I felt that way when we went to see "Undercover Brother". My cousins told me to lighten up, lol.

I also went opening night and the theater I went to was also had a lot more negros than white people. I didn’t feel any discomfort at all. My only issue is that two or three negro males kept yelling at the screen every so often as if the actors in the movie could hear them.

reply

Did you know "Negro" just means "black" in latin?

reply

I didn’t know that. I’ve always used “negro” because it’s not racist and I can’t keep up with all the ever changing terms that seem change every 10 years or so. I just found out now I can’t use the term retard or Indian

reply

I work in mental health and started out as a MR Program Specialist. MR means "Mental Retardation" and I am proud of it.

The word "Retard" means "Slow" in French. So, it's a nice term meaning "mentally slow" and Retards changed it.

They didn't like the word and didn't even bother to look it up. They changed it to, Intellectually Disabled. Disabled means "Not Able"!!!

Which would you like your kid to be seen as...slow...or not able?!

I like to use the insult "retard" because it packs a punch. Probably no one is telling you not to say "shit" or "fuck" which are gross, but hate retard which is mild.

Say what you like.

Indian is quicker to say than Native American, but Indian is kinda stupid. That's because explorers thought they were in India....lol.

reply

it was the most miserable night of my life.

reply

I guess you really felt uncomfortable opening night of Planet of the Apes.
