Anybody agrees? The entire buildup of the natives and stuff..
shareYes, that scene was suspenseful, however, the beating drums by the natives during the capturing of Ann, sounded very similar to the beating drums in the "rave party" scene from "The Matrix Reloaded."

The scene with the natives had me thinking that the filmmakers for this one decided to replace the natives with zombies (which wouldn't be so far outside the realm of possibility, considering everything else that's on that island). At least that would have been a good explanation. They weren't even like human beings in any way. It was no doubt the worst depiction of the natives of all the King Kong movies.
That was the moment where the movie crashed and burned for me. Up until then I had really been enjoying it, but then as soon as they got to the island, things got very ridiculous very fast. By about the 400th zoom-in on a skull I was rolling my eyes and thinking "yeah alright, we get it, let's move on".
The natives were creepy and violent, yes, but what really made this movie feel like a horror one were the giant carnivorous insects. Eeeeek.

Watch Braindead (1992) and it will all make sense.
