Underrated movie

I loved it.

reply

I agree.

I never read any of the comics, but this was pretty decent.

Too bad there was no sequel.

reply

Never saw it, but I liked the 2014 TV series. Too bad it was cancelled. Everything I like always is.

reply

I can't share your enthusiasm.

I won't rain on your parade. I'll just say that for me, this movie cannot be underrated.

I did like the music, and some of the sets (e.g. behind the bowling alleys) and a few of the effects, very few (water).

I really like this movie.

I always like seeing Keanu and Rachel Weisz, Swinton is the best angel in the history of cinema, and it's wonderfully atmospheric and suspenseful. Nice to see it getting some appreciation.

Came here to say this. Was watching it just now (in 2019), and thinking to myself "damn, this is such a good movie'.'

reply

I absolutely agree with you, I thought it was a great movie. It had a unique feel to it, I’ve seen other movies that involve supernatural/religious themes, but this one seemed different and didn’t go overboard with all of the strange religious artifacts and other item so with supernatural powers but still had a lot of cool and interesting ones. Plus A Perfect Circle is always in my top 3 favorite bands, so that was just another bonus for me in it.

I liked the specialized brass knuckles for coldcocking a demon, lol.

reply

For me, it was unexpectedly great and anyway much better than the crappy series.

reply

I disagree. Both the movie and the series are good.

The problem appears when you have previous expectations. The movie was heavily criticized because people expected to be like the comics, so it subverted expectations.

The you have people who have watched the movie, so they expected the series to be like the movie... but the series was closer to the comics. So it subverted expectations, again, this time backwards.

If you leave aside the movie and consider the series like a different universe and tone, you'll enjoy it.

reply

My expectations in both cases were based on comic books. The movie turned out to be unexpectedly good. The series was... usual disaster. Not different from the recent Preacher or not so recent Harry Dresden (no comics in this case but the plots are somewhat similar).

reply

Well, dunno, I love the comics, the movie, and the series.
