ever notice that hollywood movies really hate suicides???

In this movie, Constantine tries to commit suicide (unsuccessfully) when he was about 14. After that point he CAN NEVER be forgiven. Goes against the whole concept of forgiveness. Especially considering he was not even successful in killing himself.

God help the mentally ill of the world!

This is seen in a lot of movies (like What Dreams My Come). Suicides are always hell-bound no matter what. It is a common theme across many movies.

Suicide is counted among the mortal sins, though the movie ignores that, since Constantine was unsuccessful, he could confess, do penance and be absolved according to Christian doctrine. It's been a while since I've seen this movie; does John remain unrepentant?

Of course there are other cultures that have very different attitudes towards suicide, especially ritual suicide.

Actually, he WAS successful... He stated he was actually DEAD for 2 mins, but the paramedics brought him back... So since he was actually dead, its still a suicide... And hell was waiting...

Okay, but that's a cheat, isn't it? John was only clinically dead. He was brought back so he was still able to confess and repent.

I don't see a problem with that if it were true for the most part. Fair points don't get me wrong, but I mean they never back away from that stuff in many horror or drama movies (granted, it's rarely the main character).
