set in philly, filmed in pittsburgh?

was this movie really filmed in pittsburgh? i thought it was supposed to be set in philly? why wouldn't they just film in philly?

reply

Because Jeffrey W. Tott, the executive producer and financier is from Pittsburgh and he wanted it to be filmed there. Does this help?

I live in Philly and heard the exec producer and the director on a radio show. They said that parts of Pittsburgh look like South Philly (that's highly debatable)and that it was easier to film there because the narrow streets in Phillu, especially South Philly, and the high congestion would have made filming longer, more expensive and much more difficult. I still think they could have done it. Rocky was filmed in South Philly, they managed to do The Sixth Sense. I dunno, i'll have to see the flick before I judge.

aye those bastards had hella lotta streets blocked off for this damned movie. It took me 30 minutes to get to a damned bar. 30 minutes! so to top it off the movie isnt even good...sheit

Well, the Spectrum is in South Philly, but I know what you mean. The house Rocky lives in in Rocky 2 is in Center City.

reply

The house from Rocky 2 is NOT in Center City. The actual street address is 2313 S. Lambert Street. I live a block away - trust me... it's South Philly.

They couldn't get the on-set artist to just slap a S.E.P.T.A. sign on that bus. I mean everyone in PA, NJ, and DE and probably NY know that the bus sign used is not one anywhere near philly.

Sorry worng here was other parts of the film shot in south philly.

haha i just saw this movie it was awesome dont get me wrong but the location is a character in itself especially when this story is true and the events did happen in south philly and generely philadelphia and in parts of south jersey in the early 90's, i'm from south jersey and while watching this film it hurt because you could tell it was definetly not philly i mean pittsburg looks nothing like philly it was funny at times. In one scene i think i saw a sign for budwiser with the pittsburg steelers symbol next to it. And at certain times the main character would go down to a waterfront area and there were a lot of shots of bridges behind them and they were all close together which isnt really philly and i think the city of pittsburgh were in the background and u know it wasnt philly plus they could have filmed some shots that show the city of philly in the background. I mean when they went outside the city you could see in the background that it wasnt philly. Movies awesome but they did a terriable job passing it off as philly. If the story wasnt true i dont think i would have mind that much, but this *beep* really happened. So they should have done it in the actually setting.

what about the 1000's of movies that are filmed in Hollywood, Burbank or anywhere else that are set in different cities? What difference does it make?
