I thought both Kirsten and Paul did fine in this film but does anyone wonder how the film would have turned out if Resse Witherspoon and Hugh Grant were in it instead? Would it be better or worse?

Agreed. Actually, Hugh Grant has kind of branched out from his early "charmingly self-deprecating" thing into doing rather better playing jerks. But if he had starred in this movie, it would've been "the same one dimensional character" he plays in a number of other movies.
Plus, as others have pointed out, Hugh Grant as a professional tennis player would simply be too ridiculous to watch, while Bettany was not bad. Reese Witherspoon wouldn't work as believable athlete either.
But who doesn`t love Hugh Grant`s one dimensional character?

I would have likes to see Paul Bettany and Reese Witherspoon in this because I love them both. Grant wouldn't have any credibility playing a tennis player and I just don't like Kirsten Dunst. Reese would have been a better choice in my opinion.

Grant is too chubby and Witherspoon is fugly. To each their own of course, but I don't like her (looks or otherwise).
dunst and grant i think would've been good. grant just has more charisma and i think dunst did great in it.

Grant would have been an eyesore, he just doesn't look like an athlete. Reese Witherspoon is better off decked in pink.
I don't think I would buy Witherspoon as a tennis player. She is unbelievably short and does not really have an athletic build. Not that Kirsten is much better that way, but she has a good 6cm on her.
I'm sure the movie would have made a few more millions in the box office with them in it, though.
I loved Dunst and Bettany, but I think that Reese Witherspoon could pull off a tennis player. They could make her look taller, and I'm sure she wouldn't have minded toning up for the role. The only problem would be the male lead. Grant is definitely out seeing as he always plays the same one-dimensional character as forementioned. Jude Law would be a good choice, because he can bring the charm and charisma and also, the uncertainty of the role, too.

shareDid anyone consider that Hugh Grant would have been 44 years old? That's kind of scary, considering he'd have to play a thirty something tennis player. Have you seen him in shorts (Four Weddings and a Funeral). Kirsten Dunst did a great job as a tennis player.

Maybe it's just because I like Bettany better, but I prefer him. As others have said, he just looks more like a tennis player. Also, I am not sure if Grant could have pulled of the humor that Bettany brought to the role in a few of the scenes.
