James McAvoy

Okay, so I just watched the movie, and I have to say that James McAvoy was definitely the best part of the movie. He was hilarious!! He definitely needs more roles like this.

How big of a part does he have in this movie? And when does he appear?

Too easy!!

"Too easy!!"

Ah yes...

Just because God used a donkey for his purposes doesn't give you the right to be an ass.

reply

Not a big part, several scenes, but he is hilarious every time he appears!

I'm going to be honest here. I've become just a tad obsessed with his films lately, so he is the only reason I sat down to watch this movie. I remember when it first came out I didn't want to see it because I thought it looked like your run of the mill chick flick. (Does it offend any other girls that the films characterized as "chick flicks" are always horrible, and the "guy movies" are always the good ones? Girls like good movies, too, damnit. Sexist film categorizers...) Anyway, it was pretty predictable in the grand style of these kinds of movies, but it was still really good overall.

I laughed a ton and it was mostly during scenes with McAvoy. He should play snarky guys like this more often. He seems to be the stereotypical lovely guy too often. Smart asses are cooler, and you all know this. I especially loved the part near the end when he said something along the lines of "So Jake should probably win this..." hahaha Aw, betting on your brother's pain. That's a good family dynamic right there.

I think in the DVD commentary the director was saying that Carl was a difficult part to cast and then James came in and nailed it. He does a brilliant job, I agree. I would love to see him play more comedic roles like this one. Though, I think he's fantastic in everything he does.

I'll be honest and say that I was a tad bothered by the fact that he didn't really seem to resemble the rest of the family but his performance more than made up for it.

Uhhh, hellooo? No one in my family looks like each other either - it's called adoption, bebecrisp! Why are you "bothered" by family members who don't resemble each other, and why would one have to "make up for it"?? Weirrrd.

He was very good - fine comic role and I just loved how either he or his bike fell over at the bookies. He was a bit of an antagonist in terms of betting against his brother, selling his photo with Lizzie to the paparazzi/press, but charming nonetheless.

The universe has no centre and no edges. Reality is arbitrary.

James McAvoy was the best thing in this movie, just hilarious.

I'm definitely going to have to bump this thread as James was fantastic in this movie. I would love to see him take more of these type of roles... :)

Best part of the movie? Are you kidding? Every time he was on screen, I wanted to kick his character's ass. He wasn't hilarious in the slightest bit, just a douche.
