Question about Ann and Bundy ?

Did Ann Rule, personally know him (Bundy) ? Or is it her just pretending to know him, as a setting for her book ? - Please Post

reply

She actually did personally know him. Have you read the book? It's pretty good.

I went to the bookstore and ordered it - hopefully it will be as good as the movie

The book is much better than the movie, as of course there is much more detail which is altogether fascinating. The relationship between Ann & Ted comes across as almost sterile in this film, where in fact they were actually great, close friends.

I actually felt the movie made them seem slightly closer than they were, though they were friends. But in the movie, she was much quicker to turn on him. Not believable.

It's a good book, but "The Only Living Witness" by Michaud and Aynesworth is much better...it's more detailed, especially on Bundy's murders in Colorado and Utah. It's more cogent because it was better sourced--more interviews with police and victim's families, more access to court records and police reports, etc. In a few instances, the information is more accurate, and politely points out minor discrepancies in Ann Rule's "Stranger". Out of all the books on Bundy, "The Only Living Witness" it is the overall best. Still, Rule's description of the Florida murders and the Miami trial has a bigger scope than the others.

Ann has updated the book, and has admitted that there were descrepancies in the the original that she wasn't aware of then. I have just started reeading her books and am reading The STranger beside me for the first time... so am not sure of what the descrepancies are right now.... but she has noted that there were factual errors at the time.

SHould take a look at the The Only Living Witness though...it sounds interesting.

Yeah she was actually great friends with him. They met at a crisis center where she worked and he had to volunteer because of his schooling or something and ever since then they were friends. She said she had a connection to him b/c her brother had committed suicide and would have been the same age as Bundy. She was already in contract to write a book on the so called "TED killings" but had no idea her "ted" was the murderer. Ted being the manipulator he was she states probably thought he could make her write a book about how he was so :innocent:. But they kept in contact through out the time he was in prison ever so warily letters, phone calls...she sent him money for the canteen. You should really pick up a copy of the book its excellent and it really depicts her emotional struggle through this whole thing about how people just cannot understand no matter how hard she tries to tell people what she goes through, and more-over what the victims families will never have peace, and even what bundy did to himself and his family...she was very fair in this book and thats what i liked about it.

ann admits there were errors in the previous publications and answers questions at the beginning of the book to set the record straight.

They worked togethor at the suicide crises center and they went to a couple of christmas parties that the company had.

Ann was an ex cop and she could always sense if someone was a bad apple, but Ted totally fooled her, that was terribly troubling to her to this day.

ann says trust your pet if they don't like someone.. Ted was so nice but her dog never liked him...she was puzzled at the time.
