Which one you prefer?
I've rated both of them 5/10, so i wouldn't know. 2 lackluster movies as for me, Spartan being slightly more realistic and The Saint a tad more entertaining. Ok i go with The Saint for E. Shue who i loved in Leaving Las Vegas.

SPARTAN.
There's almost nothing realistic about THE SAINT. Also, David Mamet's dialogue is impeccable.
Comparing the two is like comparing SICARIO to a Cheech & Chong movie.

Apples and Oranges: They're both sweet (no coincidence that Val Kilmer stars in both), but The Saint is beholden to its genre while Spartan uses its mold to explore new avenues.
Spartan succeeds on many more levels than The Saint, not the least of which because throughout it showcases effective drama.
