Basically Boring

I thought the movie was borderline interesting, but the fact that it was so boring was unforgivable. Really my brain waves and pulse rate were constant throughout (low – almost non existent towards the end). In the whole movie there were no moments that made you sit-up and take notice, or a scene to revisit at the end to see if you missed something. Some of the acting was also Friendsesq, lots of lip chewing, cuts to frowns and fake giggles.

As far as the incognito plot. I thought the movie explored two core concepts. The concept that every action has a consequence and the relationship between the physical and the mystical. I also go the impression that the sisters may have been twins and many twins have a bond that goes much further than being blood relations. Perhaps some of the story was about each of them escaping their controlling father and each other. This seemed be one of the more plausible explanations for the sisters being in what-ever pact their father had got them involved with, the fact they shared feelings and thoughts, the paintings etc, etc.

Visually I thought they had copied many of the techniques used in the discovery channel ‘supernatural’ trailer that we have in the UK. The film was an assault on the eyes, but not the mind. If I wanted to experience an artsy story that provoked my imagination I would read a book, where my imagination can build the imagery, unchecked by weird music and strange set design. Even my wife thought the same, so it’s not that it’s a chick flick and I’m a bloke untouched by sentiment!
