This is the part I didn't get the most. What on earth is so special about a creepy, solitary house. Why can't they leave their house? Is there a specific reason to it, like what are they gonna dead or something bad gonna happen to them if they leave or wut?

yes, they can hold the people's spirits in the house if they paint them. grace didn't paint luke. she was finishing his image but he cause a fire, the paintings and luke burned out.
