Underrated???

This film didn't get great reviews and appeared as average critically and commercially with no amazing reviews and no terrible ones either, only scoring an average 7.4 on IMDB aswell. Also a decent box office run leads me to believe this film should have done better...

Watching this film it's easy to note the beautiful cinematography from the start, an expert soundtrack defiantly one of my favourites I've heard in a while. An uplifting one story with a clear message and devotion to the outline. Some might find it boring at points and not what they'd expect from a ben stiller film as the laughs aren't constant but they're still there and high quality when they do arrive. This film was interesting start to finish and quite relatable at times. I feel like I've seen various films in the TOP 250 that didn't have a lot of these aspects which are needed to make a good film.

But this is all my opinion and I'm just some guy staring at a screen somewhere in the world so what do I know? But there's someone out there he feels this cute little uplifting tale was also under appreciated by many.

I'm enjoying it now (again) and still think it's fun, lovely, gorgeous to look at, universal but intimate... I could go on. It's exciting and sweet at the same time and with so many subtle unexpected surprises.

Yes, underrated. I buy a lot of Blu-ray's for films I like, but very few soundtracks. For this I got both. It doesn't need to be an Oscar nominee to be great. Its very successful on all the levels you describe.

Also, ITS NOT A PORPOSE!!!

Què?

its a reference to a moment in the film where a fisherman insisted that the fins were from a porpose, but it turned out to be a shark.

Totally underrated. I went in expecting a bore, but I found it surprisingly tender and beautiful. It's not an all-out comedy, but it has a really calm sense of humor that I felt complimented the subject matter perfectly. It's a well-done film. I'm not sure how it is as an adaptation of its source material, but as a film on its own I thought it was really good.

+1

I completely agree. Love this movie, the scenery, the sound track and the JG songs through-out including the ending credits.

Often remakes of old classics are disliked, because... well, they are "just" remakes. In order for remake to be even moderately respected, it would have to be better than the original - storywise - and that is extremely rare. That being said, I have not seen the original Walter Mitty from 1947 (yet), so I don't know if this new version is underappreciated. I admit, however, that it was a decent movie, if maybe a bit predictable. I personally enjoyed it quite a bit the way it is.

I think your post says it all. I think the film has great production values, is amusing in areas, has a good soundtrack, is a different take on the original, but unfortunately in terms of the main narrative, does ramble off on a number of occasions. And was Kirsten Wiig short changed or what? Her female lead Cheryl is not much more than a glorified bit player, in what most seem to admit, is a fairly long drawn out film.🐭

I feel the exact same as you do. All the little details that were put into this film make it something to really appreciate. The scene where Walter imagines Cheryl signing karaoke in Greenland, giving him the courage to get on that helicopter, is by far my favourite.

It is impossible to underrate this film.

I'm not sure if it's underrated so much as overlooked. This is a beautifully made, well-written and acted film that never found its audience, perhaps because it was mismarketed, if it was marketed at all.

It's now down to 7.3, so it's slipped a bit. I just gave it 8/10, so maybe that will help.
