why is it that this movie has 51% on rotten tomatoes?

why is it that a movie with actual character development and a deep story has that rating, but mindless blockbusters made to cell toys to children like the avengers have around 98%?

Well one is a movie, the others are giant toy commercials paid for by the largest studio in the world. I don't know any critics that got where they are by getting on Disney's bad side.

Regardless, this is not a flawless movie but maybe it is what makes it unique that got it in trouble with the critics.

Think about it: they are the Walter Mitty of their worlds. They spend their careers in an office, writing about other people's movies. Do you think people just dream of being movie critics one day? They all, at some point, dreamed of making movies.

I guess the movie hit a little too close to home for them. It's about a middle-aged man who had to abandon his dreams to become a grown-up and who suddenly gets to live his life to the fullest. I think they just missed the ultimate message of the movie, which is that life isn't about extreme sports and traveling the world, but making your own life matter to yourself, and by doing so, making it matter to others.

Oh well, not the last time critics will be unanimously tepid about a good movie. Doesn't really matter, as long as people try movies for themselves instead of just taking others' advice on what to watch.
