Similarities

I just finished to watch Oseam, I really liked it... it is a very good movie and very touching. At the end says something about the monastery called Oseam in honor of the little boy... It seems that it's based on a novel based on a true story, but it makes me think about another great spanish film: Marcelino Pan y Vino (1955) I really recommend it to you

SPOILERS ABOUT Marcelino Pan y Vino

It's about a little orphan, like the main character of Oseam, that lives with monks in a little town of Spain and makes lots of troubles because he's a little mischievous. All the monks love him because he has good heart, and by the middle of the movie he finds a room where nobody enters and finds a statue of Christ who speaks with him... Marcelino sees him all alone in the cross and every day takes to him bread and wine (pan y vino, that's why the movie is called Marcelono Pan y Vino), during his vists he will tell Christ how much he wants to meet his mother that is in heaven... and well as I told you is very similar to Oseam because it is a movie based on a small story and in the end the monastery that was built on borrowed lands to the monks, finally the mayor of the town give the lands to them and every year people of the town go to see that place in memory for the children.

END of SPOILERS

I didn't tell you every detail about the movie of Marcelino, but I think that there are a few points in common... I don't know if that story of Oseam really took place or it's just fiction (like Marcelino maybe is) but maybe the author saw Marcelino Pan y Vino at some point or maybe is only a coincidence.
I'm not too much in to religion (I don't go to church and things like that) but I really enjoyed both movies, and one things is sure what Oseam is for Budism... Marcelino is for Christianism.
Thank you for you attention ;)

P.S: The Miracle of Marcelino (english title) was in the official selection of Cannes Festival 1954 and people applauded for 8 minutes, maybe that would make you want to see that classic film/tale ;)

Hei!

I think you have reasons about the similarities about "Marcelino Pan y Vino" and this "Oseam". I've seen the movie many years ago, even that actually I don't remember much, lol, but I've read also the book, and I remember the Christ in the cross and Marcelino talking with Him.

But this "Oseam" is quite good, even that I prefer "Grave of Fireflies", Takahata masterpiece!!

If you liked this movie, you might like the Korean movie "Dong seung" (2002) (A Little Monk) too. It is not animated, but same atmosphere etc.
