Wizard/sorc is perhaps the easiest class to play, one reason is because when making your char you can do stupid/silly things and it really doesn't matter, as long as you can cast spells you've got a very powerful character.

The fundamental rule = Make a wizard that can cast spells.

To do this, pump intelligence (at least 19 base to cast lvl 9 spells) if you do then congratulations, you've just made a char capable of completeing the official campaign.

Next priority is choosing spells, you probably have no idea what to choose, but that doesn't matter because you'll be forced to choose at least a few useful ones.

For campaign go for Summons/damage reductions, you can do it with just pretty much them and a henchman, however if you want to have fun better pick some other spells.

Just adhere to the fundamental rule really.

Go dexterity based take weapon finesse and choose a weapon finessable weapon, the high dexterity will help most of your thieving skills (such as hide/move silently/pick lock) aswell as giving you good ac and good ab (with right weapon) the only problem is less damage than a str based char, but if you work it to get sneak attacks this wont be a problem, a summon/henchman is useful for that.

Seeing as you probably wont be wearing very good armour you may consider adding monk (kama/unarmed is finessable) something to think about anyway.

It really depends on what you want to do with your wizard. Definitely pump up your intelligence whatever you're doing with him. You can multiclass wizard with just about anything, but if you're going mostly wizard, I would take spell focus necromancy and use finger of death and horrid wilting...it gets way more complex than that if you want to build a decent wizzie, not to mention playing strategies but something along those lines should do well, :)
