Questions about Linda's Financial Situation

I had seen this documentary some years ago on PBS and one of the questions I've had was how did Linda manage to get on SSI or disability. I say this because I don't remember her having a car or driving which made me wonder how she was able to make it to doctor appointments and hearings that Social Security sends you to to qualify for disability. Sometimes this can take many years. I ask this because I'm going through this now. Most likely Linda had a caseworker or likely an attorney also. The only thing I can guess is that some of the interviews she was able to do over the phone, or her caseworker came and got her, or either she lived close enough to resources that she could take public transportation. Of course, it could also have been friends or neighbors who took here to appointments, but these are nearly always held on a work day, so they would have to take off of work, or were elderly, or perhaps they were on assistance also, so they were available to her.

Unfortunately, I don't live close enough to any of the places I need to go (actually on the outskirts of town) to be able to catch public transportation and no one else really.

It has been so long since I've seen this film I don't know if they ever mentioned how she managed all of this.
