American sitcoms are far superior.

Have any of you people heard of a little show called "2 and a half men"? Comedy gold! I'm sick of people saying brit-coms like Spaced, AbFab, Little Brittain, The Young Ones, Black Adder, and My husband is Gay, are funnier then classics like Full House, Small Wonder, and Mr. Belvedere. I mean COME ON! DAMMIT!

Well B was the correct answer. It's also so funny to see the same people that commend good satire comedy shows, yet let comments like this fly far above their head! (I'm talking about the other posts rather than yours btw).

Ok I am from Britain and I agree that America has produced the greatest sitcoms ever- Seinfeld, Friends, King of Queens, Frasier. That is certain and anyone who tries to say Porridge is funnier than Seinfeld is insane. However, American sitcoms recently are very poor and two and a half men is awful.

reply

I'm American and I have to say, I prefer British sitcoms to American ones.

king of queens is like the worst show in history

reply

How you can put King Of Queens in the same bracket as Seinfeld and Frasier is beyond me. Of all the great US sitcoms, you picked that one?

As for Porridge, it is an out and out classic. I think it's the greatest British sitcom I've ever seen.

reply

Seinfeld is repugnant. British situation comedies such as Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister; The Good Life; Absolute Power; Fawlty Towers; Blackadder; The Thick of It; Black Books; Jeeves and Wooster; George and Mildred; and The IT Crowd are immeasurably superior.

reply

USA has produced some great sitcoms (Seinfeld, Frasier) but British sitcoms are far better than American. Nothing American can compare to Dad's army, You rang m'lord, A bit of Fry and Laurie or Yes minister/prime minister. Of course, some British comedies, like Little Britain and anything Ricky Gervais does, suck and therefore do not represent British comedy at its best.

reply

Little Britain and 2 and a Half Men aren't even the same sort of show. 2 and a Half Men is a sitcom. Little Britain is a comedy variety show.

Saturday Night Live would be he only show that would be in the same category. I'm American, and I usually find 95% of the stuff on SNL to be obnoxious. I catch Little Britain when I can, and usually every skit has at least one thing utterly hilarious. (especially Fat Fighters! )

Hope and change. Change and hope. Hopey change. Changey hope. In other words, chope.

reply

I find most American sitcoms to be fairly dull.

reply

Being Australian, I get a mixture of both British and American humour on my TV here, and personally I prefer American humour.

Here are some examples of what I consider classic American humour:
The Odd Couple
All In The Family
Sanford & Son
Laverne & Shirley (never cared too much for Happy Days)
Three's Company
Soap
Family Ties
Cheers
ALF
Married... with Children
The Simpsons
South Park
Everybody Hates Chris

Whereas Britcoms like The IT Crowd, Ab Fab, Vicar of Dibley, and even Till Death Us Do Part, the original All In The Family tend to fall flat over me, and on the subject of Little Britain, I used to LOVE that a few years back but now, that falls flat over me too.

Oh well, I guess it's called evolution.

Some British classics I've never liked (Blackadder, Monty Python, Faulty Towers), but my fave British classics are my fave by far.
AbFab, The Royle Family, Vicar of Dibley, Little Britain (1st series) and The Office just surpass any of the American comedies.

reply

Little Britain was great at first but is very dull now.
I enjoy good (in my opinion) comedy from either side of the pond.
We all have different tastes.
However, if I was only allowed to watch one nation's comedy, I would have to choose British.

reply

the simpsons haven' been very funny for a while now and i think most people will agree. America have had some great shows in the past such as Seinfeld, Frasier, cheers, Curb your Enthusiasim, and even to a degree two and a half men but its getting very repetitive. British comedys have always been hit and miss but how can you say that Monty python, faulty towers, the office, the two ronnies, Dave Allen and benny hill are not vastly better than most of what the U.S have produced.

two and a half men is pure garbage. I've tried watching it a few times, but it's so lame. None of the characters have any appeal at all. We have had our share of funny shows like Arrested Development, but overall I prefer the Britcoms. Although not technically sitcoms, I love American Dad and Family Guy. AbFab, Saxondale, Keeping Up Appearances, and Fawlty Towers are better. Benny Hill is pure genius. Here in the States, we just don't have the talent (acting and writing) that we used to. Everyone wants to be a famous actor, but they don't want to put in the work to be a GREAT actor.

I'm American and prefer British comedy to American. I can't stand Seinfeld, Two and a Half Men, or anything else on. It's all the same crap just regurgitated over and over again. Thank goodness for the BBC and BBCA or I'd never watch television.
