Forget Roger Waters???????

The best lyrics were written by Roger Waters so, why should I forget him???
His DVD "In The Flesh" is great, Pink Floyd is nothing without Roger Waters!
I've watched this performance of David Gilmour, it's in deed very good... both, Dvd's are spetacular...

reply

I agree entirely. Both are great. Gilmour the better performer (more melodic singer and incredible guitarist) and Waters the better songwriter/lyricist.

Both DVDs are great. If forced to compare, I think Waters is more important and I prefer his DVD slightly to Dave's. After all, Waters wrote most of the songs and 90% of Floyd's lyrics. Dave's guitar and singing ability is great, indeed, but as a songwriter and lyricist he is merely average, although in conjunction with Waters he wrote many great songs.

Senor, senor,
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or armageddon?

haha
Who said forget Roger Waters?!
Roger is very good in interviews. I could listen to him all day. The last Uncut magazine spread they got, for the remastered Dark Side Of The Moon I think, featured some VERY philosophical and rewarding words from Rog. David cuts to the chase in conversation, but doesn't say anything visionary. I once heard a quip from some mag I agree with--that the writer wished David Gilmour was as sharp in his lyrics as he is in conversation. As a last side note: how hard is it to write some trippy, visual lyrics? Why does David have to employ a cadre to write arguably mainstream stuff?

reply

ya i dont think anyone will doubt if roger could write songs or not. but i mean division bell is a pretty sick album. pink floyd is about sounding soo good, i dont even care what the lyrics are not do i pay much attention to trying to figure it out. just shine on that crazy guitar.

Hello there! Having read interviews by both David Gilmour and Roger Waters, I don't usually compare between these two greats, but as Megadeth's Dave Mustaine said of his favorite guitar solo, Pink Floyd's 'Time', 'David Gilmour can do more with one note than most other guitarrists can do with the entire fretboard.'

Indeed!
