Cats..

anyone have any theories about the relevance of cats in the movie? There was obviously the 'cat lady', the cat that's dying in the road (did the main characters run it over, or did it fall from appartment?) and the several references to cats throughout 'they are the only animal that has a soul', 'cats take revenge' etc?

I am not sure what that was all about, but the cat injured in the road was as disturbing as any other image in the movie.

This movie had so many sub-plots and weird twisted scenes.
I mean what's the deal with Jeon's face alternating with the woman who tossed the babies out the window? It's not that easy to guess that the husband was thinking all along that his wife actually threw the babies out, and I guess that scene was his perception.

With the cats... man oh man, I hate when they show animal mutilation in movies, and the road cat was just nasty. The girl (Jeon) was expressing her viewes on cats in the movie (actually through the psychiatric recordings.) And she says that cats are evil because they always take revenge somehow on their owners. She also said that sometimes a cats howling sounds alot like a baby's cry, which annoys her. The road cat, the way I see it, was her perception through someone else's eyes or mind. She explained that her blackouts are not really 'falling asleep' black outs that real narcoleptic people get, but rather a shock of seing something very horrifying in the other person's mind. She passed out when she saw that neighbour's 'baby in the well' vision during the MRI, and a few other times probably due to visions like this. I'm guessing that the cat was horrfying enough for her to pass out again.

The real question I have is whether she was able to see the two ghost girls, or did she see the image of the girls which was tourmenting the guy?

Thank you.

And you know what, I liked this movie, I really did, simply and purely.
And I'm truly surprised to hear that it literally flopped in South-Korea.
I'm also not too happy that people keep bashing Jeon-Ji Hyun (or Gianna Jun) for her acting. I know she picks her rolls as either Sassy-girlish' or completely depressive, but she nails them dead-on. I couldn't ask for more from any other actress, and I can't see anyone fitting better, honestly.

Maybe the movie pacing was too slow for the majority of the movie viewers, maybe the ending wasn't as gratifying as some would want or expect, or maybe the South Korean viewers are used to that theme and this simply didn't move them. My wife is Korean and thought that this movie was awful, 'A Tale of Two Sisters' didn't move her much either, and 'Red Eye' was flat out boring. However, I liked all of them, well 'Red Eye' was a tad below.

So maybe it is a perception thing. Too bad though, these types of movie intrigue me more than other. And this is the wrong thread for this, but it was a better movie than 'The 6th Sense'. Plot wise, drama and the overall shock value. The scary parts in 'The 6th sense' were mainly the 'BOO' moments, the rest sad. Here, the shocking part were so disturbing it creeped the s%it out of me. The last thing I want to see at 2am is two dead girls sitting at my table.

I loved this movie and I dont know why. Maybe because its 2am and i just finished it, but somehow it kept me interested throughout the length scenes. And the cat, oh dear .. how aweful.

Seeing more of Jun Je Hyun was worth it :)
