'Blants.' Why is it funny?

I know humor is subjective and everything... but I gotta say, I'm confused as to why so many people quote "Bless you, ants. Blants" as one of their favorite lines. I find most of Look Around You to be pretty damn funny, but I don't understand the appeal of "Blants."

Am I missing something?

They combine "bless" and "ants" into "blants." Or is there something more here?

"It's... a sweater!"

reply

It's got to be our love affair with the totally ridiculous. It doesn't have a second level of understanding, it's just the ludicrousness of someone unecessarily abbreviating the words "Bless you ants".
Of course some people will find it funy and others won't.

reply

Fair enough, that's what I figured I guess.

While I do enjoy Look Around You, I think it often suffers from "being random just for the sake of being random." And I guess some random things funny to some people but not others. Eg, we differ on 'blants.' Also, I nearly fell out of my chair at the end of the Maths episode when they showed those 2 cats fighting- a friend of mine thought it was stupid. I guess I'm just surprised by all the blants love.

Wow, I'm a genius for stating the obvious that humor is subjective. :)

"If this wasn't my son's wedding day, I'd knock your teeth out, you anti-Dentite bastard."

reply

Blants for your opinion, anyway.

Get some beer. And some cleaning products.

reply

I completely lose it at both the "blants" and fighting cats bits.

Stop fighting now. Stop writing now.

I wish I was more attractive, like Dagless.

Actually it's both. They did "Thank you ants" in series two, but the Blants one in the module on water was where it all started.

Hmm. Must be a British thing. I haven't the slightest idea, I'm not British, so I couldn't tell you.

reply

They do that with two words in almost every episode. . . . . . it's a running gag.

"Thank You Eddie. Theddie."

I LOVE this show.
The subtlety is unbelievable.
Subtvable.

"Thanks Tschikovsky, thikovsky"

reply

And right at the end of the Second series during the "Live" final:

"And of course, a special thank you to our excellent Security men, Hank Sullivan and Hank Fletcher

Thanks Hanks, (PAUSE) THanks".

Brilliant!

reply

I believe that's "Thanks, Tchaikovsky...Thankovsky."

(I love that show!)
