Compared to his recent work, this is actually passable.

His recent films have been so bad, at least this one is passable. That’s not saying much I know but I enjoyed 'parts' of it. The scenes came off as disjointed and the actor who played his love interest, Nakayo, was plain awful. If you watch carefully, most of her dialogue is dubbed. In particular, that cheesy park scene where he proposed to her. On the positives, I liked Tokyo as the backdrop and the bad guys were pretty funny. But the best were the scenes where seagal speaks Japanese. They were great! There were not enough fight scenes though. Thank eddie george isn't in it for long.

I agree, I liked this way better than a ton of stuff he has put out recently. The locales were hip, the gangs were appropriate and his fight scenes were good, there was even some funny stuff mixed in. To me its good enough to drop money on a copy to add to my DVD collection. So far I have "Marked For Death", "Out For Justice", and "On Deadly Ground".

What I liked was his Japanese. I heard him speak it before but just in spurts. He talks the Japanese talk in this film. My Japanese friends were impressed.

I like those films you mentioned except On Deadly Ground. Didn't do it for me. But! That scene in the bar where he plays handslap with that tuff guy is classic, "You're a man, right!!!" Hahahaha!

Exit Wounds was also good.

I am glad you liked it... Thanks for the cool words. If you can get the Japanese DVD off ebay it has extras on there.. Making of and deleted scenes. Plus the cut is a little different for the Japanese version...

Hi mink, i've just rewatched Into the Sun yesterday for the second time, and I kept my opinion that it's a nice movie.

A question: what's the difference between the american and the japanese versions? Which one is the closest to your personal (and not the studio) view of the movie?

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words... Appreciate it...

The Japanese DVD has deleted scenes, a making of, commercials, trailer and the cut is closer to my Directors cut but still not my cut. I prefer this one Plus the box cover is an awesome homage to the YAKUZA movies posters from the 70's in Japan done by friends at ROBOT (who killed it for me)... Sony Japan really put there all into the movie and I am very greatful for that. The theatrical release was very successful and we got some nice notices in the press. They even released it on PSP...

The US version is the studio cut and their box art.
