I disagree. The whole point of the song is that the book of love is stupid. It is full of useless things...until you read it to me. Then it becomes a masterpiece because you are reading it.
The opening lyrics says it all:
The book of love is long and boring No one can lift the damn thing It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing But I I love it when you read to me
I agree--these lyrics are brilliant and I'm positive Peter Gabriel kicks himself for not writing them first. If I ever get married, this song will play a major part in the ceremony.
May I suggest you also look into another Magnetic Fields' song, "It's Only Time" You can find it on the disc "i" (it's available on iTunes, you can preview it.) Very beautiful and about marriage
I cried too. I think... that they may be cheesey, but you can still be cheesey and be brilliant at the same time. weather they're cheesey or not doesn't matter. life is cheesey sometimes. if you let the cheese bother you, then you won't be able to enjoy life.
anyway, I adore this song. it's beautiful, and the meaning of it is perfect.
people annalyze love all the time. it's all some people think about. but the truth about love, is that it is hopeless to annalyze it becuase it has no rules... not instructions... no meathods. it just happen's, beyond anyone's control. That is, partially, what the song means to me. and the truth of it, and the rarity of such a message, makes it extremely special.
I have to agree. It's very subtle and deeply beautiful. The simplicity of it is what makes it so amazing. Would be really astonishing as part of a wedding ceremony. That part of this movie always gets to me.
