why does his wife flip out during the competition?

My wife loves this movie so we watch it often and I've understood why she flips out like that. Her and the daughter are watching the dancing and she doesn't seem the slightest upset until the very end when she walks out and then she goes off on him in the parking lot. Anybody want to help me with this?

It's a ploy , most women do this because she knows being there messed him up but she did what a lot of women do , she reversed it and acted like the ole so helpless victim !!! And then didn't want to applogize for coming and breaking his concentration so he started apologizing for nothing and which gave her green light to *beep* him up !!!!! Nuff said

If my husband had a new interest that engaged him and made him happy I'd be so pleased and glad for him. But if he concealed it I would wonder why and if he was doing something he was ashamed of and what else, what other part of his life did he feel unable to share or was out and out hiding. It's a trust thing. It's frightening and people who love one another don't choose to frighten their partner.

"Beverly flipped out because she sat there watching her husband totally immersed into something that did not involve her and he was happier than she had seen him in a very long time and she couldn't handle it. It wasn't about what the daughter did, it was about a woman who felt left out. A woman who thought nothing of having her own interests that did not include her husband. But when the tables were turned she was scared. It probably would have been easier to accept that he was cheating because she could probably deal with that. But what she couldn't deal with was the fact that her husband had an interest that she knew nothing about and she felt threatened."

Wow....you nailed it! I was thinking of something similar but your explanation seems to be right on.

You have to go back to the scene where she's having drinks with the PI and remember her saying that people often got married for a witness, to witness all in their lives so they don't have to go through it alone. Beverly wanted to be a witness to John, but he was not allowing her to, and I'm sure that it hurt her that he would do that. She wanted him to witness everything with her, she just wanted her husband to do the same with his life.

"Oh my God! You put a living room where the crack den used to be!"

I think she's a self-centered wife personally. I would never treat my husband that way so I can give you no look into a woman's mind. I just can't understand women like her. There are others, like on Modern Family that just refuse to support their spouse. It drives me crazy! Would they wanted to be treated likewise? Why marry someone if you don't want to support their interest, their hobbies, simply anything that makes up who the spouse is. I also don't like women who don't realize "allowing" men their hobby helps them be a better husband to be around because he's more relaxed and happy. Just as John proved here. She yells at him for not knowing about his dancing. Is it her fault for not being as interested in his life as she could be? I think it's a defensive measure for her own failure in that regard.

She was upset because he was keeping secrets from her. It wasn't that he was happier than he had been in years or that she was selfish. It was that he had a secret life. The man you love more than anyone in the world and you find out he has an entire life you don't know about. That's unsettling for anyone. And while she knows he's not a cheater, she's still hurt for being shut out. Hurt often comes out as anger.

LOL! She was trying to escape from the brat and her bad ballroom behaviour leading to the fall.🐭
