Just out of curiosity, does anybody know why this movie was filmed in English? Note that it wasn't dubbed; the actors' mouths were saying English words. Yet this is very much a Chinese film. Any guesses?

They did two versions: one was in English, and one was English and Cantonese. They did this because they fully expected to have the film shown internationally, so the English/Cantonese version was shown in Hong Kong and the English version was shown everywhere else (I think...). If you're in the USA and you bought the DVD, it will be the English version.

I have seen both on the big screen - they did a special screening in LA and then I saw the premiere in Hong Kong. It was a bit weird seeing the 2nd one because I loved the English one - but I like both versions now. It is a great, fun movie.

From what i gathered from other postings, is that each scene was filmed in both cantonese and english. (not confirmed by me) And that is probably because Hong Kong is still a mixed language market. In addition to the english speaking actors in the movie who probably don't speak cantonese. I haven't seen the chinese version so i'm not sure whether they had the english speaking actors still speak english and just dub over them in cantonese or if the made the attempt to speak it for the film.
