You're exaggerating

The film is reasonable but the acting is certainly not great.
Its often corny without meaning to be and Michelle Yeohs
martial arts arent shown off until near the end.

That intro was funny though as an introduction its bizarre,
why play with it and then leave it in a cage on its own. What
was the point in rescuing it at all?

reply

You're right when you say they didn't show off her martial arts completely til the end of the film. However, they did have fun fight scenes. I liked her fight with Rich Man in drag - that was pretty funny. And even though the bad guy's plans were corny, it was still a lot of fun to watch. Very enjoyable IMO. Oh, and as for the panda...well, good question. It was fun for an intro, but she left it in the cage cuz where is it going to go? Do you see any bamboo forests anywhere in sight? She probably called the cops to come collect the bad guys and return the panda. My question is, why did they steal the panda?

Sorry, I know how you feel. I was just commenting, hehe. I did enjoy the movie, and no, we don't need to know the reasons behind every action taken in a movie. Just sit back and enjoy, that's what you're supposed to do anyway.

First off Michelle Yeoh isn't even a martial artist, she was a dancer and later became a stunt woman, the only thing close to martial arts training she has had is practiing the choregraphy for her movies. That's why alot of the moves she uses during her movies rely on alot of flexiblity or wire work. True she does look good in the fights during her movies but hollywood can make anyone look good in a fight with enough practice for example matt damon in the bourne identity. The only real martial artist is michael jai white. As for the plot holes in the movie, it's nothing new in hong kong movies they go for being flashy over substance. Overall the only reason to watch the movie is if your a michelle yeoh fan or an hk movie buff.

Just a quick comment. You are quite right, Michelle is not a formally trained martial artist. But she does have training, from a variety of sources. Yuen Wo-ping was one of her sifu, as well as others. It is just that she doesn't have formal, single art training.

reply

I'm not saying she didn't get some training here and there I just wouldn't call her a martial artist. There's alot of actors who get a few months of training in martial arts for their movies but it doesn't make them martial artists. I'm just saying it's not like she's had years of training like some actors like Jet li, Mark Ducascos, or Cynthia Rothrock.

reply

Agreed. But remember she has gotten training nearly continuously over time. She's not Tom Cruise or some of these other "action" actors, who take a few months of training. Many of Michelle's movies are martial arts ones, and so she underwent a good deal of training. It just isn't formal. She just isn't trained in a single martial art form.

Of course, I'm not even sure that what credit I do give makes her a martial artist. Just saying she's got quite a bit of training. Good point!

say what you want about her but, during the filming for crouching tiger, she accidently hit one of the stunt guys in the chest and knocked his @55 on the ground, and gave him a big purple bruise. i garantee she could whoop the snot out of YOU and look good doing it

reply

Have you seen the 60s Batman TV show? This movie is in the vein of that...

It's called "camp".

if they made a movie of michelle yeoh eating pudding while wearing a potato sack i would love it, just because it's her. i would watch her for 90 min picking her nose, i don't care. she has no equal. every woman wishes she could be her. oh, and by the way, bridgette lin is a snob who hates japanese people.

Accents. Same as in Mad Max/Road Warrior.

Corny to the max. I've only seen one scene - the one with the guys on the bungee cords - and it was so rediculously bad. I had to laugh when I saw them come down and try to stomp on her. I don't remember if they were using their feet or knees but when you see it, you feel the urge to point out the fact that they're on bungee cords. Yeah. I don't think your going to have the effect your hoping for. You might as well try jumping up and doing a knee drop on someone whilst on the moon. Good luck.

And Michelle looked so frighteningly like Jet Li in her mask but with long hair. I mean facially. Maybe it was her nose. It was disturbing. She looked fine without the mask but when on...*shudders*....

Maybe the movie is good. I don't know. Personally, going off that one scene, I would say its not worth my time. But I haven't read any reviews as of yet so don't know what people think of this movie. Maybe if I read reviews saying its a good movie I'll check it out. It'll be on tv again in a few hours.

Oh my god. This movie was a lot of fun.

Here are a few things that made it fun for me:

I kept singing the Silver Hawks cartoon theme song.
She would change outfits in the blink of an eye.
Miss America Suzette Charles wigs abound.
She wears heels for close shots, flats for flips.
EVERYTHING is silver/white/green. Even the badguys shiny black ultra suit was green.
Timed charges were well-timed. (Motorcycle scene up glass ramp at self destruct)
The bad guy "Wolfe" showed his underwear at the end. Instead of Hanes he wears Heinous.
Wolfe looked like Moby/Dues Ex Machina.
Michael Jai white had an S-Curl with sideburns shaped like trapezoids.
Michelle's Omega watch was fresh. That how you ball with taste and refinement!

The crack, crack, crack move. Thank god crack-heads have not mastered this special attack!

the film was very enjoyable IMO. I'm tired of all these action movies out here that take them selves seriously. This was a breather of fresh air, good, good cast, lots of fun. Its conna be one of those cult hits.
