What's it about?

I don't mean to be anal about this, and I know this thread is pretty old, but then again, what threads on IMDB's forums aren't old. I always feel I need to correct people when they miss-name aircraft. I know the film is not supposed to be about WWII either, but I still feel I need to correct this.

First off, as has already been pointed out, the B-52 is a large jet bomber, still the main bomber of the US Air Force, and has been for around 50 years now. It's the plane that beat the hell out of Iraq in the first Gulf War. It entered service somewhere around 1955.

Second, the B-25 is not the Liberator. The B-25 was called a Mitchell. It is a light twin-engine bomber of WWII. It got the most fame from Dolittle's raid on Japan in February 1942, only a little over a month after Pearl. A group of them were launched from aircraft carriers to strike at Japan.

And lastly, the Liberator is actually a B-24. 4 engine heavy bomber used mainly in the European theater of WWII. This plane was widely used, far more so than the slightly over-rated B-17. There is a silent battle between B-17 fans and B-24 fans about which was the better bomber. I am a B-24 man myself, and I believe that it was the better plane. I think the fact that we built something like twice as many Liberators as there were B-17s is a bit of a testimony to this opinion.

And no we didn't build more just because they were easier to shoot down than the 17, because there is records of Liberators sustaining as much or more damage than a Fortess and still surviving.

Yes, so let's have it - what is the American film titled "Flyboys", supposedly with Tom Sizemore in it about?

- I am enquiring about the "Flyboys" film which is from the USA, NOT the British/European effort of the same name, about the Lafayette Escadrille, which I want to see as well, but the American film "Flyboys"; is it really about some kids who dare one another to fly a plane, or something like that? Geez, I certainly hope not, I was really looking forward to seeing another WWII film based upon the book of the same name, involving Geo. H. W. Bush Sr., in the Pacific Theatre, etc...

- Seeing as the "WWII Pacific Theatre" theme of the book of the same name has "whetted" some of our appetites for a new WWII flick about aviation, the thought that the film is really about some kids' "childhood experiments with flight" is terribly anti-climactical, and dissappointing in the very least; I mean the story of someone's childhood experiment with flight I admit may even make an interesting flick in itself, yet one who is enamoured with the idea of another new film about WWII aviation as myself would find this to be a bore, and insufficient to satisfy his desire to see another film like this again...
