Ok someone living in Portsmouth (England) can please tell me where I could get this movie??? I've been hunting for it for decades now! Neither Woolworths has it, or BlockBusters! So someone?
Thanks!

This very good movie has not been released in theaters yet, or on DVD. It may still be making the festivals. The web site at http://www.theflyboysmovie.com/ does indicate a theater release for Feb 2009.

The film is released in The Netherlands on DVD, I bought it today. Unfortunately the English soundtrack is stereo only, while the Dutch soundtrack is 5.1. There are no extras, except for some trailers for other releases. Subtitles are optional, but you can only turn them off with your remote control.

The film is 100 minutes long, which according to the IMDB is the shorter version made for television. The opening titles of the film are in Dutch.

Actually they are both the same length. Don't forget that film runs at 24fps, whereas video (and dvd) on PAL systems run at 25fps. This causes a speed-up of around 4%, which while virtually undetectable does impact the overall running time of any film. Some people claim to be able to hear the shift in pitch of peoples voices due to the PAL speed-up; personally I've never noticed it. One of the downsides can be a slight judder to action scenes, which is why Blu-Ray and HD make a lot of the 24p facility which shows the films at the correct 24fps instead of 60hz.

If you want to check whether a film is cut or not, head over to www.bbfc.co.uk, assuming you are in the UK. For the US I think it's the MPAA. They give full details of every film with a rating, details of any cuts made, what they are and why. This was passed uncut.

It does confuse a lot of people when they buy dvd's only to find the running time is different to the film. Next time you're in a shop, look at the back of something like Dark Knight on dvd, then on BluRay.. I think you'll find the difference in running time quite surprising!

Hope that helps :)

It's released on Monday, 25 May. You can get it from amazon.

You can read my review of it here:

Got mine from Zavvi website for £2. What a deal for an independent film! Surprised being a US film that there is no release (either as The Flyboys or Sky Kids) on DVD over there.

I don't normally buy from Zavvi and only checked that site out at the last minute (was going to buy from Play.com for around £8). What a great deal, though it was. I would have paid three, four times it regardless. :)

It's called Sky Kids in UK (which is a pretty poor title replacement)
