Anyone else notice Stevens voice was dubbed?

During the scene where he first goes to the monastery to get his ex partner, did anyone else notice that Stevie has his voice dubbed over for a good three to five minutes?! I couldn't stop laughing... I mean, Steven is obviously speaking english, yet they dub his voice over in english WITH ANOTHER PERSONS VOICE!

Just wondering if anyone else noticed.

reply

Yeah, I noticed it too.

I mainly laughed *speaking for everyone*

When he asked "and how are your wounds?" ahaha that is simply classic

reply

Yeah, I wondered that too. Intrigued to know why; it did seem a little pointless. Maybe he had a cold, or was a little hoarse :D <chuckle>

reply

Yeah i noticed, cant understand why though?
If he had a cold ect surely the makers could just wait until he got better?

What was the language of the monks anyway?

reply

There are a few other places he was dubbed over. I even think it was dubbed with his own voice. Judging from his face and the few times he stuttered his lines that they didn't dub him over, I vote DRUNK.

I'm so glad this was pointed out here. I am just watching Belly of the Beast for the first time and could not take my eyes off the screen. That is without doubt the weirdest moment I've seen in a Seagal movie yet. It sort of sounds like him but nothing like his normal voice. I have never seen any of his direct to video films. I went to Blockbuster where I get a free older DVD with every movie rental and decided to start my journey into Steven's back catalog with this one. Wow, I can't believe how many direct to video films of his there are. The action section was littered with them!

dude, they show these p.o.s.' on usa network all the time. save your coupons for chuck norris or sunny chiba.

reply

Um, I hate to blow anyone's illusions here, but it's actually _normal_ in movies to have the actors dub their own lines after the shooting. http://filmsound.org/terminology/adr.htm -- it just happens in this case that Seagal sucks at it. Oh, wait, just happens? Since he sucks at all else, I guess this isn't surprising.

While it's funny to make fun of how Seagal sucks, this isn't actually the case. It's frequent in Seagal movies that he doesn't even turn up to do ADR (redubbing) mainly due to budget constraints. As most of his movies have been pretty low budget they can't always afford extra time with their leading man who is probably arrogant enough (judging by his notoriety and things he's said in the past) to demand a fairly hefty pay cheque off them.

So most of the time his voice sounds like someone else's, it's because it is someone else's.

reply

Oh yes it's definately noticeable...I'm watching it right now and even though I KNEW the dubbing was coming, it was still a shock at how hard I laughed my cock off.

Genius.

This has to be the best of his DtDVD work considering some of the other turkeys out there.

Oh God. Did you eat all this acid?
That's right!

I've watched my fair share of Steven Seagal movies, and he does that in most of his post-stardom films. God knows why.

Put the movie in french, problem solved... one dub during all the movie. Thats what i do.

Alice is the worst character of all time, she need to die in the last movie. Chris/Jill are RE !!!
