He's lost it

Very dissapointed with this film--convoluted plot and the over reliance on graphic tech. But most of all, Stephen Seagal has lost much of his athleticism since his earlier flics. To compensate, his only real action is his face, which then gives way to standins or high-end editing techniques. Additional compensation is the "magic" possessed by his character, which puts bullets, arrows, and karate chops into slow motion. Not new but I wonder if this technique does not also permit his own karate movements to be slowed down, thereby covering up his lost athleticism.

Of course, with age everyone goes down hill but shouldn't action heros, like beauty queens, bow out when they have lost their special talent? Stephan Seagal need not leave film, for I could see him in other genres that are not based on athletic skill. Age is not always a factor, but SS in this film does not have the agility and speed that are associated with karate stars. I know that there are people who enjoy this film and it has its merits, but in it SS is running on his past fame not his present gifts.

What really kills me is he is a 7th dan Aikido Master (not Karate) and in that he is extremely impressive. Aikido does not rely on any level of athletisism at all to deliver the most astonishing, show stopping martial arts moves and techniques. Hell he could stand still and look good.

I wish he'd make a film without the a) guns b) ex-CIA crap c) super human trapeze crapola and go back to the Aikido that made him in the first place.

sales-777, I didn't know any of that about aikido. Thanks for the info. It would be interesting to do as you suggest.

Clint Eastwood was in his 60's when he was making his last dirty hairy film. IT's all about what you do to stay in shape. maybe upside down spin kicks are out of the question, but I know alot of guys with gray hair who can stil throw a punch. you dont see people lining up to take on mike tyson do you? Why? because he can beat any normal guy up.

I totally agree. This movie was so hilariously awful that I can't really hate it, but I do wish Seagal would go back to being the impressive guy he was in the 90s. I know he's old, but like you said he could stand still and look good.

And what the hell was with that voodoo magic stuff. That was hilarious 

Aikido heavily involves utilising your opponent's movement and inertia against them as well as the multitude of grips, holds and tendon twists (ouch) which we've seen.
The poster is quite right concerning Aikido and Seagal...regardless of what people say about his weight as regards a martial artist, he is still hard as nails. The only issue is standing still and flipping your enemies is cinematically boring and it would require some interesting choreography to spice up.

Saying that I do think the action/fight scenes are damaged by Seagal's need to be shot from certain angles and always in black. So you like to sing do you Steve?

Oh God. Did you eat all this acid?
That's right!

I gave up on this film half-way through. All the action is in part-second clips stitched together, so I doubt Seagal can do any moves completely any more. With all the weight he carries now, he'd do best just falling on his opponents. J-C Van Damme has kept in shape and is far, far better an actor.

I like that there is one overweight actor who is badass and not a comic relief
