Do they ever say what state it's in?

Do they ever say what state this movie's set in? Because I live in a city of the same name and I don't think anyone in the entire town (it's somewhere between a suburb and almost-city) ever heard a word about it until one day I was walking through my library and saw the VHS of the movie on display and went, "Eeehhh?" Yeah.

i, too, live near shaker heights.

jooc, i googled "shaker heights" -oh -ohio -cuyahoga -battle -miramax

the fifth [including sub-link hits] hit down was www.theshakerheights.sh/ revolving around some english rock group, but other than that, even with all the exclusions i had in there, *still* the only links that were coming up all pointed to shaker heights, ohio.

this leads me to believe that it's a pretty good bet that that's the only shaker heights in the u.s.a.

a google-cached webpage from 2005.10.06

shows a film review in the fresno bee which claims that the movie was "Set in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights." once again, the answer to your question is probably an equally good bet that it's shaker heights, ohio.

So, it is Ohio.

Does that mean my hometown is cool now?

Shaker Heights is in Ohio, and apparently Paul
Newman was born there.

reply

Paul Newman was indeed born there. Along with me and Molly Shannon. 'Tis a pretty cool place :)

Doesn't anyone read the TRIVIA section for movies before they post questions like this????? Here's the quote from the TRIVIA section.

"The city of Shaker Heights is a city that boarders Cleveland, Ohio."

reply

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK...

i think it borders cleveland also lol try spell check ,its located on the border of everyoneknowswhereitisville

spectre can

suck it.

reply

When ever I hear "Shaker Heights" I always think of The Beverly Brothers.

reply

What's the point of filming in l.a. when filming over here in cleveland is cheap enough already? I live really close to Shaker Heights and the big hype right now is the Spider Man filming downtown. It's much cheaper to build a fake NYC in Cleveland than to use the real thing apparently.

Shaker Heights is in Ohio. They picked that city because the writer is probably from there. I know she is from Ohio because she talks about that during Project Greenlight.

reply

Yes, the writer's from Ohio, but she's actually never been to Shaker Heights. her college roommate was from Shaker and she put the name in the film because she liked the way it sounded. but if you live in Shaker (I do - born and raised) then you know that the film is NOTHING like the actual place. it's such a good movie though.... despite the inaccuracies.

reply

[deleted]

I too am from Shaker and they picked the name because they liked the sound of it. That's it.

reply

It's definately in Ohio, because number one they mention Cleavland, and also the liscence plate on his jeep says Ohio

reply

[deleted]

I believe they picked another location because of the timing of the shoot. I think it was winter time and in Cleveland that means blizzard central and unfavorable working conditions. I think that it was discussed in Project Greenlight.

reply

I live in Ohio (Westlake). And I have been to Shaker Heights.

Do not go to Ohio, it sucks.

Okay, Cincinnati and Columbus are nice, but everything in and around Cleveland sucks, including all of the sports teams, the weather, and the business.

reply

I also live in Ohio and the Cleveland area is the best part of Ohio. Columbus and Cincitucky are so lame it's almost embarrassing to consider them part of my state. Cleveland, youngstown, canton and akron?? REAL ohioans.

reply

I'd cast a vote for the small towns like Canal Fulton, Ohio, where they roll up the streets and the people at 8 p.m., and Massillon, where if you didn't or don't play football for the Massillon Tigers, you don't exist. :)

reply

A very long time ago I spent a few weeks in the little town of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and I would like to take this opportunity to say I had a great time and I still remember it, 45 years later. I was visiting my girlfriend who was a student at Antioch College. We were 21, healthy, and in love; we spent an inordinate amount of time in bed. Sigh. Who said something about Shaker Heights? Never heard of it.

reply

It IS set in Ohio... if you pay close attention there are a couple of scenes where Ohio license plates are visible. I think there is also a line where Kelly mentions Cleveland.

reply

I live in Australia and it's not realesed yet is the movie good?

reply

In the movie there's a license plate near the beginning that you're meant to see that's an Ohio plate.

What hump?

reply

it is ohio...his license plate is ohio and they refrence cleveland

reply

It's based in Ohio but it's filmed mostly in California

reply

[deleted]

there are a couple "clues" - the ohio license plates seen throughout and the fact that shia mentions his dad going to cincy (cincinnati) to pick up bums.

reply

Yes, definitely supposed to take place in Ohio, though filmed in California. I don't know if anybody caught this, but if you look closely, there was a palm tree visible in the distance early in the film, when Bart stopped to offer Kelly a ride and Kelly thought it was someone trying to harrass him.

reply

Yea at one point in the film they mention that Cleveland so it is def. Shaker Heights, Ohio.

reply

It's in Ohio, b/c Shaker Heights is a suburb of Cleveland

"Cause she's got a great ass... and you got your head all the way up it!" - Vincent Hanna

reply

Though they show them only once or twice, I believe you can tell from his jeep's license plates that they're Ohio plates.

reply

People Shaker Heights is technically a city, and judging by most of your responses, none of you will ever have the money to touch any piece of real estate that is within the city limits.
