I almost feel sorry for Steve Carell

Didn't he sense something went terribly wrong during
the process of making the film?(or when he read the script)

I mean,he is one of my favorite american actors, most of his previous movies are lovable but this I am a bit disappointed by him for playing this kind of role.

Steve wasn't the household name that he is today when he made Anchorman.

I think he had some credits from The DAily Show, but not a whole lot of other roles he carried. It's The Office that really put him on the map.

Steve did not bring much to the character, such as it was.

... apart from making Brick an unforgettable support character. The impact of the Brick character caused Judd Apatow to approach Carell about creating a film together, thus the genesis of the 40 Year Old Virgin.🐭

I personally thought that Brick was the best character in the film. Carell had me laughing out loud with his performance.

I just heard a line from his character that I thought for sure came from '40 year Old..."
I don't remember the line but it was a take on the 'breasts feel like sand' joke.

"Steve did not bring much to the character, such as it was." Disagree, thought he made that character's lines much funnier than many good actors would have.

Carell was the only positive thing in the movie. We are not permitted to award zero stars, but that is OK because Carell's contribution is worth the one star I have to give as a minimum.

Update: I was being unfair. The psychedelic trip to Pleasure Town was worth another point. Better than the one in "The Big Lebowski",

So, overall, I give it 2.
