Over rated.. not funny

This movie is wayyyyy over rated, and NOT FUNNY! A 7/10 is way beyond what this movie deserves. I generally enjoy funny movies, and this movie has cheap comedy that can get a couple smirks and thats it. I dunno why any1 says this is a funny movie, the only funny will farrel movie ever was step-brothers, every other will farrel movie is just not funny and is childishly stupid.

reply

so you think step brothers is funny and his other work is childish yet in step brothers he acts like a kid and is immature.............

reply

stinks of troll in here....

reply

Yup, clearly the only reason someone would claim will ferrell isn't funny is to start a flamewar, because no-one could legitimately hold that opinion...

Whadda you do for a living, sell shoes? Cooka-yayah-o!

reply

I agree 100%. This film is SO overrated. It's so stupid. Will Ferrell is childish. I don't dislike him per se, but a lot of his films are pretty lame. I have seen this many times, but it's definately one of the most overrated films ever. I know loads of people who are obsessed with this film. But it is NOT funny at all. I am not coming on here to start some stupid war with others, but it is my opinion. Cheap comedy is right.

Agreed! I thought it would be more of a satire of the 1970s but ended up being a pointless unfunny movie. Espacially the newscaster rumble. What the hell was that about? A lot of people loved it but I didn't get it at all. Besides Will Ferrell is basically hit or miss. When he's on target, he's the best comedic actor around. When he misses, he makes anything Pauly Shore does seem like Woody Allen!

CHICAGO ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

this movie blows.

I think the only movies I've enjoyed by Will F. are Talledega Nights, Old School, Night at the Roxbury, and Elf.

Most of his other stuff just bores me to tears. Especially Semi-Pro.

reply

Actually Stranger Than Fiction was an interesting movie and a different type of role for him. I liked Melinda and Melinda but being that it is a Woody Allen movie it is an acquired taste. Haven't seen Semi-Pro yet but your opinion seems to follow what everyone else I heard and read thinks of the film. Like I said, he's hit or miss, and that's at his best!

Stranger Than Fiction was worth a view. It was a good one-timer, but overall, it's definitely not his best movie.

"Yup, clearly the only reason someone would claim will ferrell isn't funny is to start a flamewar, because no-one could legitimately hold that opinion"

Anyone who thinks Ferrell is funny must have the IQ of a 3 year old. He is a talentless piece of garbage, he never was and never will be funny.

I had a similar feeling. At first it does satirise the male chauvinist behavior of Burgundy and Co that was happening at the time, but after Burgundy is fired the film drifts off into being overly dramatic. Particuarly in the brief interaction between Burgundy and Mantooth near the end.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

Anyone who thinks you can judge intelligence based on their sense of humour... is themselves retarded.

reply

I agree. My friends really made it sound like this movie was the funniest thing ever, but I chuckled maybe once or twice. It's mostly childish, gross, sexual humor that falls flat and can be seen a mile away.

This weekend a couple of my friends came over. Their little siblings wanted to go trick r treating, and since I knew the neighborhood, I took them out and let my friends hang and talk at my place. I was pretty angry when I cam back and saw that they had brought Anchorman and were watching it with my eight year old brother right there. I was like... are you serious right now.

reply

blackbriar, that's the problem with type of crap, we are breeding a nation of idiots

reply

Agreed, this film was hyped to me by my friend and his sister, i watched it expecting something hilarious and it was quite shallow. But then again im not into Will Ferrel, Adam Sandler and the other guys that cranked out 4 films a year a few years ago.

I admit Ferrel is better than Sandler (not difficult) but i dont see him as a guy to hang a film from.

Just my opinion and i appear to be in the minority, but have to agree with the OP and some others in this thread.

@thepartydjz

Better a nation without stuckup snobs like yourself who feel the need to judge others intelligence based on a difference in subjective matter. Wouldn't surprise me if you look down on people based on their music taste as well, despite it being equally highly subjective.

reply

The thing that surprised me is that there were no jokes at all in this film, just random events like a guy getting a boner and a dog being kicked off a bridge that I suppose we are expected to laugh at. No actual gags or subversions of expectation - just dumb events happening one after the other for no reason. Why do people seem to like this? It's boring.

Ron Burgundy is no Alan Partridge.

Some of the performances were good, though, especially the station boss.
.

reply

Seemingly random events generating laughter?, sounds like Monty Python. Oh wait, they're highly respected and revered in comedy.

Why does humour have to solely be set piece jokes?!?. If you're with your family in the garden having lunch and your cousin trips up in an amusing manner, do you not laugh and instead complain there wasn't sufficient dialogue to make it worthy of amusement?

reply

someone doesnt understand Monty Python.

reply

Its boring to you FLANGED, and to anyone else that thinks its boring too. It's so stupid to say that those who like this film or Will Ferrel are stupid or, for the over-dramatizing idiots, all hope is lost w/e. I see your opinions but when you sound that ignorant it just makes you seem not only like a 'troll' but like a dumbass as well. Sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and say "When in Rome".

reply

Fair enough, I just didn't like it. Was probably more disappointed 'cos someone told me it was a satire and it wasn't.

Before anyone says that I am uptight or have a stick up my a*%, I just want to say- I love comedy. Even toilet humor like Something About Mary, 40 Year Old Virgin, the Hangover. Anchorman was slow moving and truly boring to me. I was surprised at the amount of fans it has. My husband and I turned it off after the 1st half hour. And we had bought it! I expected more from Farrell. Plus the bizarre pseudo snobish accent that Ron and Veronica were using was very off- putting. Not funny. That reminded me of how Little Nicky and Waterboy were ruined by the stupid accents and speech impediments taken on by Adam Sandler. Waste of a very talented cast of comedians. Just my opinion.

reply

Music is highly subjective? So Taylor Swift is equal to Mozart? You have painted your own self portrait, that of an idiot.

reply

OK, lets get a couple things straight here.

1. Will Ferrell is without a doubt one of the worst comedic actors ever. The only half way decent movie he's ever done was Old School & that's it.

2. For those who say Adam Sandler isn't funny, clearly don't or haven't seen any of his stand up routines, SNL sketches, etc. Sandler is one of the best things to ever come out of SNL. His movies *beep* on Ferrell's epic failures. Billy Madison & Happy Gilmore far & away exceed anything Ferrell ever dreams to accomplish. Yes he has done some crap (Spanglish, Click, Jack & Jill) so has everybody else, no one's perfect. But Sandler trumps anything Ferrell has ever done in his entire career. Not to say Ferrell isn't at all funny. He's a way better sketch writer/performer, yes some of his shtick is over the top but he's better than half the guys ever to set foot on the SNL stage (i.e. Jimmy Fallon). This movie in its entirety I'll agree wasn't real amusing. In fact most of the bits that were funny were done by Brick (i.e. Steve Carell), the rest was just way too over the top. I too can't understand why or how people think he's funny. I will agree most of his humor is childish, maybe even a tad immature but he's certainly not the worst.

reply

Ferrell can be funny but he can't carry a movie. Anytime he's the star the movie is average at best (Burgundy, Semi Pro, etc.) In Step Brothers he had John C. Reilly, in The Other Guys he had Mark Wahlberg and Michael Keaton. Wedding Crashers he had a cameo and was effing hilarious.

Ferrell can be good in the right situation. This movie ain't it.

reply

Step Brothers just looked stupid. Everything he does is way too over the top, like he's almost trying too hard to be funny or wanting people to like him. Some people have a tough time transitioning from Sketch Comedy to Film. For some it works, for others its a colossal disaster.

reply

Make no mistake, Step Brothers WAS stupid. Utterly ridiculous plot. BUT, it at least had some funny lines if one is willing to turn off their logic meter as I am from time to time. Anchorman was exactly the opposite, trying to position itself as some oh-so-hip satire of 70s local news, great idea in concept, only one problem. The lines and scenes aren't funny.

As for Ferrell specifically, I agree he has a history of trying too hard. And I think he does that when he is the one who has to carry a movie, or at least thinks he has to.

reply

Thank God people are finally realizing the truth. True Film Fanatics know a good movie from a bad one & a funny one from an utterly stupid one. Thank you very much Mr. dkgambler. I salute you.
