Amazing Book

I've heard that the movie wasn't that good, but the book was amazing!

Queen's Fool was wonderful. The new one about Elizabeth and Dudley....not so much. It's a decent book, but not as good as the other two.

In the trilogy, The Other Boleyn Girl was the only one to pretend to stick to history... I felt Gregory really devolved to her bodice-ripping roots in the second two novels. Ah well, at least the first was well done.

I have read and reread the other boleyn girl, its been to cyprus and south africa with me, but I want to know where mary boleyn was buried. I've scoured the internet a hundred times. the book has awakened a fascination of Mary Boleyn for me, and I'd like to know more about her later life. Fans of the other boleyn girl may be interested to know that mary had a son, not a daughter, by william stafford who died when he was ten years old, two years after his mother. and i'd like to know, were catherine and henry really henry viiis children? surley there must be some dna way of finding out? if they WERE carey children then the descendants could have their dna tested aginst dna drom the bones of elizabeth 1 or better still henry fitzroy, who was henry tudors aknowledged son. oh i dont know, its just bugging me, all these questions have stemmed from reading that book! my partner is really miffed that i always seem to be reading it. he bought me the virgins lover but to be honest i got bored halfway through and never finished it! It was a good enough book, but with very little historical facts in it and that's why I probably didn't like it as much as everyone else.

The Other Boleyn Girl was amazing. The Queen's Fool was a good read, but not as good as TOBG. The Virgin's Lover was okay, but one has to know just about how inaccurate it was. Has anyone read The Constant Princess? Omg, it was aweful! It totally tore apart history. It seems that Philippa Gregory just likes to tell the same story over again. She tried to make Catherine of Aragon seem so.... ashdfjasdk!

I really liked the Other Boleyn Girl (prolly cause i'm so fascinated with Anne). The Queen's Fool was good... Hannah was a somewhat interesting character and i thought it interesting that she chose to portray Mary as a sympathetic character. The Virgin's Lover was more of a romance novel; even with the historical inaccuracies I was still stunned by the portrayal of Elizabeth as a weak, clinging woman.

The Constant Princess was NOT what I was expecting. I think that some of the contemporary affairs must have influenced the author in order for her to delve into the whole Christian\Islam issue. She tried to make it flow with the story but it seemed kinda strange that Katherine of Aragon the Catholic, was made out to be such a tolerant person.

Ms. Gregory is still a very talented author and I'm looking forward to her next book, The Boleyn Inheritance (about Anne of Cleves and Catherine Howard), in December.

I couldn't read The Queens Fool. Every time I picked it up, I put it dow again. I loved TOBG and I quite liked Virgin's Lover. I suppose I am a bit obsessed with Anne Boleyn too. I can't wait to see the new film... hope it's as good!

It was an interesting book but it did *not* stick to history. There is not one jot of evidence to support her assertion that Anne and George really did commit incest. I thought Anne's characterization in the book was pretty one-note as well (she's more interesting in the Natalie Portman remake of TOBG).

However, book aside, I have to say this was one of the strangest series I've ever watched. I, uh--don't quite know what to think of it. I kind of like that it completely disregards the typical filming style of historical films with all the reality stuff, I admire a director who takes chances like that but--I don't know what to think of it. Very strange. Anne wasn't a dark brunette, Henry didn't seem to have the presence other Henrys have, the whole thing seemed so washed out--very strange.

This book is not based on historical facts. The real Mary seems to have been a bit of a slut, and not a very nice person? Anne seems to have been 'the good sister'

When she was in France Mary supposedly embarked on several affairs, including one with King Francis himself
Although Mary was alleged to have been more attractive than her sister, Anne seems to have been more ambitious and intelligent. When the king took an interest in Anne, she refused to become his mistress, being shrewd enough to wait and not give in to his sexual advances until it was the most advantageous.

After marrying Stafford, Mary's financial circumstances became so desperate that she was reduced to begging the King’s adviser Thomas Cromwell to speak to Henry and Anne on her behalf. Henry, however, seems to have been indifferent to her plight; It was Anne who relented, sending Mary a magnificent golden cup and some money, but still refusing to receive her at court. This partial reconciliation was the closest the two sisters came to, since it is not thought that they met after Mary's court exile.

Mary's life between 1534 and her sister's execution on 19 May 1536 is difficult to trace. There is no record of her visiting her parents, nor did she visit her sister Anne or her brother George when the latter was imprisoned in the Tower of London. There is also no evidence that she sent correspondence. Like their uncle, Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke to Norfolk, she may have thought it wise to avoid association with her now-disgraced relatives.
