I think Jewel is actually one of the better judges

At least she knows music and how to be a performer. I loved that she noticed that one girl was barring her chords instead of using a capo, I thought that was great. I also like that these kids play instruments. And I think she gives good criticism. I am not familiar with the blonde guy...he is more of a songwriter than a performer I think..and John Rich is just a fool. I mean Big and Rich are entertaining and all..but this clown with this hat and his raccoon coat walk around like he reinvented country music. He takes himself way too seriously. Jewel rocks. And I forgive her for going to the dark side and letting John Rich produce her record so she can get a RedNeck Woman or Missippi Girl hit out of him...

Of course she's the best judge, but her competition is a poor man's Bo Duke and Lt. Dangle in a cowboy hat.

I so disagree...albiet..yes..she is totally riding the "gone country" train..at least she has a little cred coming from folk music..but more importantly..she IS a musician. Eye candy are these hollywood princesses who are pro-tooled to death in post production. Jewel can play and she can sing.

I agree that Jewel is the best 'judge' - she is always able to give concise, specific constructive criticism which is the only helpful kind.

Here's the thing Ella...The glorious Bonnie Rait or the Goddess Emmylou would most likely NEVER agree to judge what is in effect a cheesy reality show. They are what country music is about...the music!!

Setting aside all that though..for pure mindless summer entertainment..and just to hear what stupid blowhard crap comes out of John Rich's mouth...Jewel is pretty good on this show.

I don't think you should judge Jewel and say that she isn't "country" enough. Yes she has only had one country album, but do you know anything about her music background? She was singing country music as a way to make money with her dad in Alaska (as a duo) at around the age of 7. Several of her country songs on this album were written in her teens. She just couldn't get her record company to let her record/promote songs that were country. They always told her that she had to make her songs more pop. She does a good job on helping the contestants improve their perfomances by providing good advice.

I think country is becoming more and more pop as well. Even the contestants on the show are singing a lot of pop songs...

I liked her when she first came around, and she has a good voice, but she is not "country" and she does not have the country experience to judge (not that the other guys are great either) this season's judges all leave a lot to be desired really..
