Screenwriter expresses dissappointment and embarassment by Elektra

"Elektra is one of the reasons I got into television. I spent a year writing the movie, and it was supposed to be this gigantic movie and then they decide they're not going to make an $80M movie they're going to make a $30M movie, they bring in a director we didn't know, you get fired, someone else comes in and rewrites the entire movie but you still get credit because you wrote the first draft. Then you go to the premiere in Las Vegas and 30-seconds into the movie you're like oh, [frick]. I literally, to this day, am still so embarrassed by that movie. I probably shouldn't say this but I know Jennifer Garner is too. She hired us to write the movie which was pitched as something much more smart and sophisticated....it's a blemish. "

Don't blame him, movie was bad. The only thing I like about it is the cinematography, that was actually the only good thing about it if you ask me.

My ignore list is quite large.

I notice he says he only wrote the first draft, but if that draft is responsible for the 'chosen one/treasure/Elektra the bad ass assassin spends a whole movie protecting an annoying tweenage girl' then frankly he's in no position to talk.

Agreed.

I can't stand these actors and writers and directors...If a movie fails they all say "Oh, we never really liked it ourselves".

Complete rubbish...If Elektra made money they wouldn't say a bad word about it.

Typical Hollywood. If you make trash, at least stand by your trash.

Then you'd get criticised for not taking criticism and just being stupid. Plenty of writers and director's have shat on movie's that were successful.

In the interview, he also says "and 30-seconds into the movie you're like oh, [frick]," which means he got as far as probably somewhere near the middle of the opening narration before he realized it was going to be bad. I would guess the whole chosen one/treasure thing wasn't in his first draft, because that's what the whole opening narration was all about.

I've read a Jennifer Garner quote where she regretted making the film too soon. I assumed that meant before the script etc was fully ready and perhaps too close to Daredevil. But it may have meant they were rushed in to production with too small a budget. Who knows but she seemed disappointed with the result.

I don't really care what the "original" screenwriter said or even what JG said. I've always liked the film and think she's really good in the part.🐭
