Ruined Film Reel?

In this DVD, Lynch talks about being paid $1000 by Barton Wasserman to create an ambitious, experimental short juxtaposing live action and animation with split frame... Then in the sequence "Into the Can" he says that the footage was ruined after being sent to print, and him seeing nothing but "blur... no frame lines" while unreeling the film...

What a goddamned pity! A would-be lynch short that never survived? Does anyone know what the hell actually happened to the film? What was it about? Why did it become blur?

Lynch doesn't go into much detail about this on the DVD so I was wondering if he'd mentioned it in an interview somewhere else or if anyone has read about this before.
