alternate ending.

i thought this was a beautiful film.
the characters gave excellent performances and you could really feel for them. unlike some movies out there where they don't have any emotion.

the only thing i would change though was the ending. I think it wouldv'e been more powerful if Rose would've stayed in the bed with her dad while the house burned down. The mood of "promise me" by courtney saunders deffinately led me to believe that's what was going to happen. The ending would go like this: multiple shots of the house burning up. The snake slithering out of the door. Then a shot above the bed with Jack and Rose lying it while the fire enters the room and surrounds the bed. Then it would dim black and go to the credits.

I like the ending you came up with, though I think its perfect the way it is. Rose said she would commit suicide if Jack died, no matter what. But with all the things that happened in the last bit, it 'made' her change her mind. She needed to be away from Jack, to be her own person and live in the real world.
Beautiful ending though.

she promised her dad though that she would try not to kill herself when he died. so this was one more way of telling him that she loved him by living

i think either way you go it would've shown her devotion to jack. i mean, if she stayed with him it would show how she couldn't live without him, but since she ended up alive she was fulfilling his wishes. i like the imagery of the snake leaving the house in your version, though.

the snake needs to die in the fire. the snake is a symbol for the bad outside world day lewis brought into the house, and by killing the snake you kill his mistake. more closure if the snake dies.

My thoughts exactly. It looked like it was going that way and I was oddly disappointed when it didn't.
