Dropping the wine bottle

I think that when Pitt drops the bottle he's checking to she Jolie's reflexes. They stare at each other for a moment and I can see it go from there. But then she drops the bottle on the floor and there is the shot of it spilling. Why include the shot if it is not important in some way? If it wasn't important in some way, I could see her catch it, the pause as they size each other up, then she drops it as they take off running to "get a towel" without the focus on the bottle hitting the floor. In slomo even! Did I miss something or was it just unecessary?

I love the move so give me a break on the hating. I get lots of you don't like it. Do you understand that for every movie there are going to be fans? Everyone's got an opinion and most of us don't feel the need to go to every movies IMDB page to say how much we hate a movie. Why not give that a try?

Here we are; a bunch of psychopaths helping each other out.

The dropping if the bottle is the "starting gun" for them to try and kill one another.

I see the bottle drop as a final test that she has trained reflexes but also as a declaration of war. De Niro uses the same test is Ronin.

She dropped the bottle to give herself an excuse to leave the room and get her gun. That's why they both say something like, "I'll get something"

No...she drops the bottle on purpose because it's a test of her reflexes and by the time her brain registers that, it's too late. She has already caught it. Hence the reason why she says to herself in the car shortly after "How could you be so stupid?" Like said earlier, the shot of the bottle hitting the floor is basically the start of the action to follow.
