I Don't Get It

So Sarah Jessica Parker's character wasn't good enough for Dermont's character for the family, but they were fine with her marrying Luke Wilson's character? I don't understand this. Is this family close knit or what?

I think by the time SJP and LW hooked up in the movie, they started to like her more. Also, maybe they could see that they were a better match than Dermont's character and SJP were.

Also Amy just didn't like her at all because she thought she was a stuck up corporate woman and Meredith didn't like her because she knew Everett didn't really love her and he was only marrying her because of their issues with her illness. Plus SJP character did say a lot of stuff that just came across to them as completely rude at first. I think they soon realized she wasn't so bad and Luke's character liked her since her first saw her.

Soon realized? They treated her like crap the entire movie until the end. They didn't like her, because of the impression that Amy gave of her.

I think its more because Everett tended to take himself to serious and her sister was a better match in encouraging him to be himself, much like Ben did for SJP's character. They balanced each other out

^^ Precisely.
